This morning’s crop of new Low Power FM stations includes one (WFOI-LPFM) for Muhammed’s University of the new Islam, based a short distance away from Fayette, Mississippi.
Some of this will be a little familiar if you know about Malcom X. In the beginning was Elijah Muhammed. Elijah was the son of a Georgia sharecropper who moved North to Detroit during the a Great Northern Migration. He became the leader of the Nation of Islam.
One of his followers was Malcolm X. Following an argument after the assisination of JFK where Malcolm X said “the chickens have come home to roost” [heard that phrase recently?], Malcolm X was assassinated, probably by followers of Louis Farrakhan who now leads the reconstituted Nation of Islam.
Malcolm X’s wife was named Betty Shabazz. Her daughter Qubilah was arrested for trying to kill Louis Farrakhan. Her daughter’s 10 year old son son Muhammed came to live with her, set the apartment on fire and she died from her injury in 1995. Betty was briefly married to black radio entrepreneur Percy Sutton.
So the New Nation of Islam is led by a man only identified as the “Son of Man” – one of the businesses part of this church is Shabazz Printing – not exactly a common name. The Son of Man was born in 1950 – he is not Malcolm Shabaaz. His name is Marvin Muhammed.
So Marvin makes YouTube videos, and decided to interview Cliven Bundy.
