This is still a little murky, but Tom Taylor reports that Triton Digital has been sold of by OakTree Capital. OakTree also owns Townsquare Media, whose business model seemed to be to acquire non-viable radio stations and hope that selling ads on a web site for a station few people listen to would generate ad revenue. Maybe that isn’t working out.
A lot of the employees were let go. Triton is now apparently controlled by Vector Capital of San Francisco.
Triton surely has come under pressure from iHeartRadio streaming and to some degree Tunein.
The good part about StreamingRadioGuide is there is no Private Equity funding and nobody can fire me. I wonder if the FCC could declare the content “not legal”…
