well good. I am sick of these half ass sites that look like crap on a computer screen.
They suck
So congratulations Art ! do not conform to the Borg.
Long Live SRG !
Parrott
They even mention that designed for phone sites suck, but unilaterally have defined “best practices” and use your non-conformity to black ball you. They’re cruising for antitrust trouble. Keep in mind that Google is now a big player in Internet access, not just search.
They did point out that when I moved the web site to its new home, I failed to enable on-the-fly compression, so big pages should load faster, and save on wireless traffic.
Another point they make is some of the things you tap on the screens are too close to each other, which is true.
I find the designed for phones sites infuriating on the iPad, especially if they don’t offer a way back to the real site. Google considers giving a mobile user a full site option a bad practice.
Call me old fashioned – doing anything on a phone will end up being retarded after about 10 minutes of unsuccessful tapping and dragging.
While I do use this web site on the iPhone a fair bit, the big issue (and I suspect it was what parrott is alluding to…
Windows 8 attempted to change the paradigm (ack!) of web browsing to be touch screen, tablet based. Windows 10 is going to make that even more so, creating a uniform “experience” over everything from your WindowsWatch to your 60 inch widescreen TV.
Back in the days when we walked 10 miles a day in the snow to get to school, the Windows rules for proper design of windows was that you should be able to do everything with the computer without having a mouse (or touchpad, or touch screen). Have you recently resized a window and moved it around the screen using only your keyboard? How many people even know how to do that? How many even have a keyboard? haha
So the “Market” took the cue from Microsoft and started redesigning web pages to make them Microsoft Friendly or iOS web app friendly, assuming the screen is tiny and the visitor lives most of their life on their phone. Unfortunately, I think in the long term, that wins – not because us old people want it, but because we will matter less and less.
