The lost decade

The years 2000-2009 have an identity problem. In addition to having a lot of unpleasant history, nobody can figure out what to call the decade. The Zeros? The Naughts?

Variety music likes to group music by the decades – the most popular being “80s, 90s and Today”. Well, the 90s are 15 years old, and music from 2001 isn’t exactly “today”. Music from the 10s doesn’t exactly sound very catchy either.

I’ve thought of that a lot myself. Also note that if you call 2000 to 2009 the Zeros, or the Naughts, and follow them by the Teens, where does that leave 2010, 2011, and 2012?

I did a google and someone also suggested the Unies – Uni for the years that were one digit. I had never heard that or seen it in print before finding the search result.

“2k00s or 2kzeros” seems ok to me, followed by “2k10s or 2ktens”… but someone might confuse 2k with 2048 😉
