Welcome to the “new” StreamingRadioGuide.com

Actually not much has changed. linode.com moved the server from Xen to KVM per my request. If you don’t know what that means, you don’t need to know.

The DNS for the domain is currently provided by a company in Canada named easyDNS – they’re the ones warning me about ICANN. The odd part is my domain isn’t registered with them 🙂 The “Why” is pretty boring. In the beginning was findanisp.com, hosted on a defunct hosting company called servercentral, who used a company called enom that is also essentially defunct (bought by a company in England). Back in the FindAnISP.com days, I spent a lot of money on advertising (via Google Adwords) and my DNS suddenly went down. I was getting charged by Google to send my (potential) customers to only have them get a “no such server” response.

I was losing probably $100 an hour until either I got the domain running again or was able to suspend the google ads. I quickly switched to a Canadian DNS company that appeared to have a better, more reliable DNS platform. I’ve not had any complaints about them, other than it leaves my Domain Registration, DNS and actual server in 3 different countries (England, Canada, and Texas). “Credibility” measures look at that askew, and think it looks suspicious, you know. When I split streamingradioguide.com from findanisp.com, I just used the same domain registrar and DNS I was already using.

It looks like the linode hosting account includes DNS, so I’ll probably be phasing out the Canadian part (it runs out in under 2 months). This basically means “I’m happy” with linode as the hosting service. It hasn’t had any outages or technical issues, and is much much faster than running it from my second bedroom.

DNS has moved. Let me know if you are unable to reach the web site.

    [that’s a joke]
