End of the road – at the end of the road

This is somewhat stale news

WELY AM and FM was a very unique and quirky station, in the middle of nowhere in the woods of Minnesota, (almost) literally at the end of the road [there is a small road that will take you to a Canadian border checkpoint if you follow it long enough]

The stations are owned by the Chippewa Indian tribe, but it isn’t an “oppressed voice” radio station complaining about white Europeans destroying their culture. They mainly just played curious music knowing that nobody is listening. It reminded me a bit of KPIG in California. It wasn’t huffing and puffing about being “indie” music being better than commercial nor playing heavy metal. It just wasn’t interested in Mediabase and which artist is “popular” in the outside world this week.

Well, someone got the idea to “fix” the station
News Story
They brought in a surfing dude from Southern California who knows how to stuff classic rock music into a computer and press the “random playlist” button. Problem solved.

“Problem” solved. Don’t live anywhere near there, but it’s always sad when something like this happens. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!
