The New Cumulus Radio

The new guy pulling the strings at Cumulus – Jeffrey Marcus – is further to the right than iHeart’s Bob Pittman is to the commie left.

The better known names Marcus has given money to – Pete Wilson, Arlen Specter, John Cornyn, Rudy Giuliani – kind of middle of the road establishment Republicans.

He goes Quayle hunting with George Bush and Quick Duck! Cheney

Mary Berner, the new CEO, lives (or lived) across the street from the Jackie Onassis lake in Central Park. She is a typical New York City Democrat. She would not be able to tell you where Peachtree street is. She has said she isn’t going to move people out of their offices in New York to make room for her – translation to corporate speak – I won’t be here very long, I don’t have radio in my blood – my banker friends from the cocktail party circuit are paying me $1.5 million to hire a PR firm and important stuff like that. I’m going to the new play opening tonight on Broadway. Gotta go – the doorman says my black towncar is waiting

Boone Iowa is a suburb of Des Moines Iowa. KWQW-FM 98.3 was a Conservative Talk Station until today. Iowa is very important in the 2016 election with the potential for a ton of political advertising money. Des Moines is the largest city in Iowa and former home of Look Magazine.

Glenn Beck, Michael Savage and Mark Levin have been replaced with – Classic Hip Hop.

Can we draw any inferences from this?

Replaced with classic hip hop – is there such a thing?

It does demonstrate the lengths that liberals will go to silence any non-liberal voice.

The rumor mill is swirling – the above news and this morning’s rumors suggest it may not have been Jeff Marcus who ousted the Dickey brothers. There is no way Marcus would agree with the above format change.

I wonder if Mary Berner has met Randy Michaels yet. I hear he is a sweet talker to the ladies

It has been almost a year since Craig Ferguson left the Late Late show on CBS TV after his 10 year run. Last night was the first time I heard of him. Am I out of touch or what? Being a Scottish invader to American Culture, I anticipated I would not like him – but he turned out to be very similar to the David Letterman of my youth – back when he was on NBC after Carson and so unknown he could walk around New York City or New Jersey and nobody knew who he was.

Craig Ferguson is a standup comic who worked without the scripted bits and TelePrompTer monologs. He actually has to know stuff and be genuinely interested in people.

I watched a couple hours of YouTube highlights. The only unpleasant segment was with Heather Locklear. She looked a lot younger than she is. She was being somewhat flirtatious until Craig mentioned he enjoyed watching TJ Hooker episodes from the Internet. She took that as negative, as if he was saying he was watching the shows to get sexually aroused. It immediately put him on the defensive.

This obviously has nothing to do with Cumulus

Today’s Cumulus rumor is whoever is pulling the strings is going to kill Nash and Nash icon. Since the PD from the hotbed of country Music – Indianapolis Indiana – has assumed the role of National Country Music PD, it makes sense. Paging Blair Garner – please pick up the white privilege courtesy phone. Can you spin classic hip hop vinyl?

    • Art Stone says:

Mary Berner is headed to Nashville. Whether that portends anything specific about Nash isn’t clear other than perhaps that fixing it is high on her list of priorities.

    • Parrott says:

Nash Country or whatever it was called — sucked,
it was annoying and they played terrible music. They fired all the local talent at a local country station, and put that crap on.
Doesn’t matter, Sharia law will get rid of whats left. When the obo imports the alleged 1.7 million refugees -> ‘boys-2-men’ it will forever change.
Then the good dems in congress and ‘Joker-Tut’ will set up some more ‘Gun-Free’ zones, for protecting the masses.
Lets make Capital Hill and the White House area as ‘gun free zone.
They do that, then we can talk.
      Don’t shake that left hand : )

      LOL

      Parrott

      • Art Stone says:

Nash Icon is roughly what people would call Classic Country. Nash (no icon) is Blair Garner, the guy who used to do voice tracking for Clear Channel. While based in Nashville, I sense I won’t hear much Southern. Saying ain’t and cain’t don’t make you no redneck. Country is way too fragmented to create a single nationwide format.

The bad news is a smattering of reports that radio ad revenue fell off a cliff in August. Or another way to look at it is this will speed up the demise of iHeart and Cumulus and maybe bring back a leaner more local radio. Or maybe Howard Stern becomes the only radio show in America

        • Art Stone says:

It took about 90 seconds to hate Nash Icon. I’m thinking the deal is Cumulus cut deals with minor labels to give them Air play for reduced royalties. I caught the final few seconds of a song followed by a promotion by Reba McIntyre to buy the song, then the next song was the music equivalent of a drunk in a bar rambling incoherently about women troubles.

    • Art Stone says:

It’s hard to figure out the dynamics of this situation, but I think the programming stupidity I have assigned to the Dickeys started with this guy. He has this attitude that people on the air probably should pay the radio station for the exposure rather than being paid.

Then again, the Dickeys hired him…
