While the US media is occupied with Bruce Jenner’s lipstick, the President of mainland China met withe the leader of Taiwan
The Chinese Civil War began in 1927 between the Communists and the Nationalist Chinese. When Japan invaded China, the two sides unified to fight Japan. After World War Two was settled, the Chinese Civil War began again, with the Nationalist forces fleeing to the island of Formosa, the main island of Taiwan. Chiang Kai-shek led the country until his death in 1975.
The US has militarily supported Taiwan and generally provided support in the United Nations as Taiwan asserts it is a country, and not just a province of mainland China.
Taiwan wants to join the Trans Pacific Partnership, and many people support that idea, including Japan.
The China of 2015 is not the Mao China of the 1960s. Most people on Taiwan alive today don’t personally remember World War II and the Chinese Civil War.
Taiwan is a crowded island. It has an extremely low birth rate and a rapidly aging population. China and Taiwan are increasingly becoming large trading partners.
As Congress considers the TPP, they need to think ahead to what Taiwan’s entry into the TPP would mean for the countries that have an interest in the South China Sea controversy. It is conceivable that Taiwan may determine that the United States is not a reliable partner and negotiate some sort of reunification with the Mainland similar to the current status of Hong Kong.
Taiwan bummer, they made the best radios. Ukraine found that we were not reliable partner real quick like!
Poland is thinking Oh Sheeeeet ! Here we go again !

Don’t forget Canada. In a year or two, all the US railroads will be owned by Canada
You are a Prophet Art ! The word on the street, is that ‘bongo’ Hunter Harrison thinks that NS would like to be bought by CP? He thinks he is the merger guru. Granted he has left a pretty big path of destruction in his wake.
Ol harrison knew better they to bring up this merger ‘sheit’ when Mr. Moorman was CEO of NS. Illinois central, Dakota,Minnesota & Eastern and I think that transfer RR in Chicago were things he ate. But none are the size and scope of NS. Still a lot of ‘Southern’ men in NS, I don’t think this will happen. (Hope not) NS Just bought the lower part of D & H from CP for 101 million, earlier this year. so I doubt they are are thinking of merger with CP.
Harrison is a legend in his own mind.

CP has publicly made an offer to buy NS in the past day. NS was reportedly polite, but not interested. CSX is the correct match. When Conrail was whacked up, NS got the east coast, CSX got the Midwest (former PRR and NYC). Prior to realignment, NS had direct access to Chicago, but they gave that up. Fort Wayne is as close as NS gets to Chicago, which is as Far East as CP goes. That means CP trains to the East Coast ports have to CSX trackage rights across Indiana, or talk CN into letting them use the IC down to Tennessee or down to New Orleans and back north to Atlanta.
Railroads are hurting. The demand to install PTC nationwide, activists wanting to shut them down every time a train derails, communities demanding “quiet zones” – then the coal industry dying, the Saudis trying to drive American producers out of the oil business, power plants shifting to natural gas, and the opening of the bigger Panama Canal next year are going to make railroads unattractive to operate. Right now they are enjoying a windfall from low fuel prices, but one global event could change that overnight
