Barack Obama won Maryland with 62% in 2012. Maryland is a mix of Federal employees and the urban poor in Baltimore. Reducing the size of government is not a message that gets you votes.
As in most states outside of the South, in the D vs R polls, Kasich does better than Trump or Cruz, but that’s a relative thing. Democrats win Maryland in November with +17 (Clinton vs Kasich) to +39% (Sanders vs Trump)
