While updating NPR stations this morning, I had to endure listening to Morning Edition. Not even listening very closely, there were two substantive journalistic errors I heard.
They were talking about President Obama’s trip to Vietnam – they mentioned the trip may be overshadowed by the drone killing of the Taliban’s leader inside Afghanistan. He is the leader in Afghanistan, but the drone strike was in Pakistan. That’s an important distinction as this could have repercussions within Pakistan, which might also spread to Saudi Arabia. The Taliban are not Arabs. Before 9/11, they were on the public’s radar for blowing up an ancient huge statue of Buddha and holding two Red Cross workers as Christian spies. They’re not nice people, but…
The Taliban did not carry out 9/11, and the US Military has been paying them to protect convoys in the parts of Afghanistan the stooge puppet government we support doesn’t control, which is most of the country. Look for the Taliban to topple the Kabul government in the next month because of this decision.
NPR also harped at length about North Carolina’s HB2 law, probably a daily feature. They described it as “the religious freedom” bill. While undoubtedly many of the people who voted for the bill are religious, the rationale of the bill was privacy in group bathrooms and changing areas, and nothing in the debate or text of the bill is based in religion. This is not a gay wedding cake bill. If the NC legislature voted to legalize pot, it would not be the “religious pot freedom” bill.
I generally support the bill, although for reasons having nothing to do with gay pedophiles from San Francisco. This bill was an expected response to the new mayor of Charlotte launching a White House initiative to “get” Republican Governor Pat McCrory with a coordinated campaign organized by the Democrats and their media allies.
By creating a special protection within the City of Charlotte, transgender people would never be certain what the rule is when they travel outside their own city. I shop at a Walmart that you might think is in Charlotte, but is actually in Pineville, a baseball throw over the border. The rule needs to be the same in the entire state, or even better – the entire country. The problem is Democrats don’t have the votes to pass such a law, even to support this “freedom” inside the controlled environment of schools, let alone truly public bathrooms like your local shopping mall.
National Progressive Rat(-speak).
Today’s Pat McCrory (R) vs Cooper(D) poll for NC – shows the race back at being a tie from a significant Democratic lead. The NC Transgender bathroom thing is not flying with normal Americans. 1st graders have no idea about sexuality and adults who obsess about the gender identity of 6 year olds are the ones who have the serious issues.
Agreed. I’d have to explain Caitlyn Jenner in the boy’s room to a 6 year old boy before I’d have to explain Caitlyn Jenner in the girl’s room to a 6 year old boy.
BTW- Both restrooms probably have a diaper changing table it is a probably that both 6 year olds have walked passed a baby getting a diaper changed. Not a life altering event for a 6 year old who may have siblings.
