Many Americans don’t give a damn about marriage, religion, or girls having men in the changing room at their swimming pool, but don’t screw with sports.
USA Today (Gannett) has a web site dedicated to covering high school sports that posted a sympathetic story about a “transgender” boy wanting to compete on the women’s track team. They’re getting quite the earful on an increasingly angry comment board.
My college roommate is scheduled to have gender reassignment surgery tomorrow. Maybe it will make him feel better, but it is not turning him into a woman. He will be a castrated man who looks like a woman.
The physiology of men and women are very different. It isn’t just a penis and boobs. The head of the femur is much bigger in men. The distance from the centerline to the hip socket is wider on women, reflecting the need for the birth canal. Taking testosterone is “doping” and is is cheating and gets you banned from sports. Taking estrogen does not make you female and doesn’t undo your male physical differences.
There are people with a genetic defect called Klinefelter Syndrome that leaves them with an indeterminate gender because they have two X genes and a y gene or XXYY syndrome where two extra genes are present. Gender assignment surgery was originally designed for these types of people to clarify which gender they would identify with, but that is very different than a normal man who enjoys pink underwear and wearing a bra.
How about some diversity on the NBA courts… and the NHL rinks? Looking at the racial statistics as the EEOC does for other businesses, they have been asleep on this one.
