Premiere [something] Networks

Tom Taylor reports that Rush Limbaugh’s syndicator is phasing out the word Radio from their name.

Premiere is owned by Clear Channel, which for a couple years now has said they are in the programming business, and Radio is just one of the delivery platforms.  This probably reflects that Bob Pittman is starting to make his mark on Clear Channel, and sees more of a future in iHeartRadio and the web than that quaint radio thing.

Another sign of coming changes is that (at least right now), the Premiere web page is featuring Randi Rhodes getting some trivial “award” from a government employee labor union – not Rush Limbaugh or Glenn Beck.    Premiere has just started to syndicate a program from TMZ.

Glenn Beck’s contract runs out around November 2012 (great timing!).   Limbaugh’s contract runs until 2016.

    Hey, Fred –

I’d like your opinion on something that is off topic. When will the elected representatives of the people stand up to the disgusting TSA? The libs won’t because they a) don’t act independently and b) are closet fascist (or as a friend of mine calls them dictators-in-drag). Where the hell is the Tea Party, the conservatives and the few republicans worth a damn?

    David –

You can never be too secure.

Back in the 1980s, I lived near East Lansing Michigan, home of Michigan State University. The city passed a law prohibiting smoking in restaurants. At the time, I thought (and said) – this is a test to see how far people can be pushed without pushing back. If people with a nicotine addiction would be compliant and just follow the law, things would go much further.

So this morning, the radio carried the opinion of that one guy who says that fat children should be taken away from their parents and be put into foster care (to protect the children, of course). The tone of voice and wording strongly suggested approval of that idea.

Beck today was talking about how people in Poland were eased into doing things they would have considered unthinkable. He didn’t connect it to the Overton Window, but it’s all part of the same idea.
