From the beginning, it was pretty clear this story would not end well.
There are lots of important details spread across the various stories. When the storie first broke into the news, it was three missing people who knew each other from working at a restaurant together. The three people were Tru Quan Le, a 23 year old Asian woman; Ahmia Feaster, a mixed race 19 year old black woman, and Alex Castillo, a 17 year old Hispanic male – a diverse group of friends.
Le (“Sandy”) told relatives she was going to meet with the other two about collecting a $1,000 debt. Instead, her bank account was emptied. She was seen on a security camera on Eastway Drive, which is on the North side of Charlotte. I have a sense that the police have a program to install license plate readers in gas stations and/or city wide tracking of all cell phones.
In any case, Feaster’s car showed up abandoned on a city street after police gave a description. I don’t think there was obvious foul play in that car, but there may have been. Feaster and Castillo called relatives to say they were OK, but not saying where they were.
Then Le’s car showed up abandoned in Phoenix Arizona, with reports that Castillo and Feaster had crossed into Mexico. Le’s body was found yesterday by tracking her cell phone to near where her body was found.
I think it pretty likely Feaster is now dead, also. Time will tell. The picture of Castillo doesn’t strike me as a thug who would murder over a debt. My tingly sense is there is a lot more to this story, possibly involving drugs and/or prostitution.
Great – we just had a deadly officer related shooting in Northeast Charlotte as the result of a state trooper chase. No details yet
So this started as a state trooper pulling over a Volvo for speeding. The Trooper pursued the car into a neighborhood when driver failed to stop. When the car stopped, the driver exited the vehicle, and apparently the bullet decided to kill the man. There is no mention of the dead guy having or displaying a weapon. I’m pretty sure speeding on the interstate is not a felony. (The speed limit on I-485 is 70 mph)

Now with a little more time – the “high speed chase” has morphed into a “brief pursuit” and the dead guy lives on the street where he was shot
The dead guy was deaf

NC State Troopers get training in interacting with deaf people and not escalating situations when a deaf person ignores verbal commands, reaches for a pad and pen, etc

The state trooper is black. I suspected that, given the area of Charlotte where this happened.
