Ohio Turnpike to allow self-driving vehicles

AP Story

This is an excellent choice. The OH turnpike is flat, has few interchanges and relatively light traffic. It skirts the major cities of Youngstown, Cleveland and Toledo. It is intended to be a through route for trucks, not an inner city freeway.

This should also be where they try out self driving tractor trailers. If the DOT relaxed the rules on driver hours if they have the truck in autopilot, that creates the incentive, even if the driver is an illegal immigrant and doesn’t have a CDL. It doesn’t matter – they aren’t driving the truck.

The biggest problem I see is – who gets the speeding ticket for going 1 mile over the speed limit? If you have ever driven the Turnpike, you’ll get that.

Why do Greyhound buses need drivers?
