Interesting Radio Station of the Day – WFTM-AM

WFTM-AM is located in Maysville, Kentucky.

Why I noticed it as unusual is that the station is owned by a tobacco company.

WFTM stands for “World’s Finest Tobacco Market” and is one of the post WW II AM stations.

Until recently, they were playing “Oldies”, but as the lovers of oldies music drifted into the ages that advertisers don’t care about them anymore, the station is now playing music from the 60s and 70s.    The AM station no longer has a web page that I can see, and is running a satellite delivered syndicated music format.

Maysville sits on the Ohio River on the border between Kentucky and Ohio.

The awesome picture of the station building follows…

The call letters WFTM makes me think of L/S/M/F/T (Lucky Strikes means fine tobacco). “So round, so firm, so fully packed”

Mark me as politically incorrect, but I like some of the old cigarette print and radio ads. I have listened to many hours of old Jack Benny Shows when they were his sponsor.
