The US Federal District Court of DC is an extremely important Court. It has original jurisdiction over activities that occur inside Washington DC, like making laws, and cases involving government officials.
On the tails of his wildly successful G20 trip, President Obama nominated Abid Riaz Qureshi to serve on that court. He is a Pakistani Muslim with no prior experience as a judge. He works at a DC law firm. Lathan and Watkins is the largest grossing law firm in the world, and Mr Qureshi works in the pro bono division handling charity cases.
