Who is Andy Dean?

The new “Conservative” host joining Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity on Premiere has been working on WSB-AM in Atlanta. His “show” was on from 1-3 PM on Sundays. These days, most stations are carrying Purity Products informercials that time of the week. He’s also filled in for Herman Cain.

WSB has deleted his biography, but Google has a copy
Bio

What he thinks is significant
– He won a contest that allowed him to meet Bill Clinton
– he attended Harvard
– he was active in the JFK School of Government
– he knows John McCain’s campaign manager

“Conservative”? Uh-huh. Not many people who go to Harvard and major in “Government” are members of the Tea Party.

How do they choose such a loser? His ratings are nigh invisible and will likely shrink further. Amazing

I wasn’t feeling well this morning, or I would have looked a bit deeper into it.

Well, here are some clues from the Newsletter blurb:

“The show’s called “America Now” and it stars former WSB-AM, Atlanta (750) talker and former Donald Trump Productions president Andy Dean. Premiere Networks President Julie Talbott believes that “Andy’s energy, charisma and passion for radio will resonate with talk audiences around the country.” The Andy Dean project’s being done in association with Doyle Rose and Agile Media Partners.”

You’ll notice his WSB bio doesn’t mention he used to work for Donald Trump. Donald Trump Productions was the company that created “The Apprentrice” TV show.

His Bio suggests to me that he is probably from a military family – one thread of “Conservative” means “No amount of spending money on the military could ever be too much”. Radio America – the syndicator of Roger Hedgecock and G Gordon Liddy is owned by a Washington DC charity whose purpose it is to lobby the government to spend more money on the military.

Who is “Doyle Rose and Agile Media Partners”?

His LinkedIn profile says he is working with TMZ Syndication. He used to be the President of Emmis Communications from 1988-2002.

Only a few days ago, Premiere announced they would be launching a TMZ radio program into syndication.

Who is Julie Talbott? Back in December, Clear Channel slashed a big portion of the staff of Premiere. Glenn Beck hired away the guy who originally hired him. She joined Premiere in 2000

The above is an interesting picture. It’s Kraig Kitchen (the guy who Beck hired), Julie Talbott, and George Noory.

Prior to joining Premiere, Julie was the COO of “MJI Broadcasting”. Not being a music person, I didn’t know who/what that is. It was a syndicator of rock music programming acquired by Premiere

      Need any more hints?

Since I don’t watch TV, I wouldn’t know that he was a finalist on The Apprentice and Trump hired him for real after he fired him on TV

    What a crock of manure….
“Andy Dean, known as ‘The King of New Content’ is the host of “The Andy Dean Program” on WSB-Atlanta. Andy’s hit WSB program features a fresh take on conservative political commentary and news analysis.”

A Sunday afternoon program on an AM station – even in a major market – means he probably had no more than 3 listeners. Looking back in the history of the schedule, that time period in the past had Meet the Press and Clark Howard reruns. WSB apparently still thinks they are carrying the Allen Hunt show in the evening, which ended at the end of May. Nobody listens to talk radio on the weekends and nobody in radio cares about it.

So the show has debuted! His first guest was Donald Trump. I’m shocked!

Premiere claims he has 30 affiliates. His show is originating in California. He has two affiliates in California – KSTE-AM. It’s Clear Channel’s news/talk station in Sacramento. It doesn’t list the show on their schedule yet.

The other California affiliate is a 400 watt FM station near Barstow – out in the desert on the road from LA to Vegas. That station is not owned by Clear Channel and is currently “Silent”. They are in process of moving their transmitter – they tore down the old one but the new antenna hasn’t arrived yet.

His only affiliate in Illinois is WKXQ-FM in Rushville – an agricultural area west of Springfield. They carry NASCAR and Chicago Cubs and UofIllinois sports, so his show will be preempted a lot. His show is not yet listed on their web site.

He has no affilaites in New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine or Maryland.

Down south, he has one affiliate in Texas – KXBT-FM in Austin. They do actually list the show on their web site but aren’t carrying the show live. He’s going to learn – as Dennis Miller had to learn in the beginning – that it is very hard to start syndication of a call in talk show when you have no affiliates carrying the station live.
