The Cyber war begins

CERT is the government’s long standing Cyber Security organization based at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA.

This bulletin was just sent out, but doesn’t really say much specific – my guess it is in response to the arrest today of 14 members of Anonymous, the group that has some connection to the Wikileaks situation.   I’m thinking they are expecting a major escalation in attacks on the Internet infrastructure as a result.

One of the things I expect to see in the not too distant future is for the government to make it a criminal offense to not use government defined “Best Practices” on internet connected servers – so if you’re running a web server and it gets hacked and becomes a vector for spreading a trojan or DDOS attack, the web site operator faces criminal charges for negligently endangering national security.

Government and “best practice” – an oxymoron if there ever was one.

Today’s news is that Anonymous claims to have 1 GB of pilfered documents from NATO. I see no reason to doubt that claim. They say many of the documents are Waaayyyy… too dangerous to publish on the Web, even for them.

Hey, is that a cloud of locusts heading for Brussels?
