Iran invades Iraq

While you’re watching someone try to hit Rupert Murdoch with a pie and Congress is tied up with hearings about dog fighting, Iran has sent its military into the Kurdistan portion of Iraq. (Remember that wonderful new tunnel?)

It’s a good thing the US Military isn’t stretched too thin.

Has President Clinton made any comment on these developments yet?

She will “deem as won” the war in Iraq.

This is very predictable. We destroyed Iraq’s own military capability. It was no match against us, but kept Iran at a standoff. Having destroyed most of Iraq’s hardware, when we leave (riiiiight!), that leaves Iraq with an internal police force in Jeeps designed to stop internal dissent up against Iran with airplanes and tanks and missiles and submarines.

Even if Iran stays quiet, it will take little provocation for Turkey to spill over the border if the Kurds start getting nationalist ideas again. I heard Turkey’s military is almost as big as all of NATO combined.
