Having faced fierce opposition from franchisees over the wildly successful all day breakfast, McDonald’s has just made another demand, which may push ALL franchisees over the edge. Sometime soon, the McDonald’s near you will have a self ordering kiosk.

Those kisosks are a winner. I loved them at McDonalds Europe about 6 years ago. They were much better than waiting in line. Also, the new setup at many McDonalds where there is one cashier and then a section of the counter where you are supposed to mill about until your order is called for pickup is not really working. Have you ever had food at Sheetz? They are all kiosk, and their food is amazingly good for being in a gas station. The kiosk lets you totally customize your order, even in ways you didn´t know existed. The closest one to you is in Troutman, I think.
I drove by one in Greensboro a year ago, but didn’t stop in
The next logical progression for McDonalds is to avoid the single file nature of the drive through bottleneck by allowing you to park in a parking spot, pick up your phone and place your order and pay for it, and indicate the number of your parking space, and then your meal is brought out to you when it is complete and you eat in the car or take it back to the office.
Oh my, I just described a drive in restaurant from 50 years ago!
Very interesting menu. Troutman is the closest by a few miles, but Salisbury is the one I more likely would drive by. Charlotte is smothered in Circle Ks – they were originally owned by ConocoPhillips but were bought by a French Canadian company in 2003. Damn Canadians stealing our American jobs! Repeal NAFTA!
Hold on a sec….
MTO ! Sheetz gasoline may suck, but their food is better. MTO, Made to Order. It is good Haiti222 ! They are all over the place here in Virginia.
You select your cheese, your tomato, if you want salt & Pepper. If you want ‘Fryz’ : ) or chips or a pickle.
They usually have 4 kiosk at a sheetz , even if its in ‘nowheresville’ Virginia.
Yeah there is sheetz in Troutman, Statesville, Hickory , Greensboro Raliegh area.
If you can read there is a pic of the cheese or pickle or Fryz : )

I created a poll a couple weeks asking people what McDonalds should offer in addition to fries

Yep, I remember that one. I think your selection did not offer
‘seaweed’ ? I can’t remember if I added it : )
I did choose ‘pudding’ L_O_L .
‘snak-pak was good to take camping in scouts.

The idiot who answered pootang pie has no idea what it is
Sheetz is family owned, and has expanded into Cleveland and NC. It´s interesting that PA spawned the best food/coffee gas stations. Sheetz and Wawa are the major players that are still independent. They try to stay out of each other´s areas. Wawa is down in Florida, and has better coffee choices. My kids don´t like Wawa´s food. Turkey Hill was another competitor, but it was bought by Kroger, and is randomly putting stores in places like Indianapolis. Kroger is using gasoline as an adjunct to grocery sales with earned discounts from the loyalty card.

Even the NYT weighed in:

2013 map (Wawa also in FL, Sheetz in Greenville SC):

Yeah there is a WaWa in Short Pump, ( Richmond) VA.
Very easy access to I-64. I will have to try the WaWa Coffee next time I am in Short Pump. I heard them advertised on WNTP in Philly before.
There is a colleague of mine here with the company I work for, he watches Sheetz expansion map. He is a railfan so its good to know where things are, as he follows trains around.
I suggested the ‘Sheetz app’ : ) I have the Love’s Truckstop app on my phone.
