Wazzup with Jason Lewis?

Our resident Radiophile JMyrleFuller, informed me in the original thread about Andy Dean that Jason Lewis has a new radio home.

I completely missed this at the time, and all this week.

Minneapolis Post story

Of all places, Jason Lewis is winding up on the GCN – the Alex Jones conspiracy network that is heard on about 3 stations.

Curiously, Premiere has not removed Jason Lewis from the web site.  I didn’t test any stations with Jason Lewis last week (I was asleep that time of day) and nobody reported not hearing Jason Lewis, so I’m not 100% sure what is going on here.   The newspaper story is from 3 weeks ago when the announcement was made.

I went through the Premiere Affiliate list on the America Now web site and didn’t pick up a pattern that it matched existing Jason Lewis affiliates.   The story suggests stations that carry Lewis may be moving en masse over to GCN.

Wow.    Just when you think the world can’t get any stranger…

I have heard Jason Lewis before on WRDU “Rush Radio” in Raleigh NC. As far as I know they are still carrying him from 6-9 pm Monday-Friday (there website still reflects this). I will not be able to check until Monday evening.

Other than Lewis, WRDU carries the “standard” daytime talk lineup — local morning show, followed by Beck, Limbaugh, Hannity..zzzzz…..

The thing to listen for on Monday is the Network IDs. It’s entirely possible he’ll not mention it. It might be going on both networks, the way one of the CRN channels carries Salem’s lineups.

He wasn’t on any of the channels last week so I thought he was just on vacation. I looked at his new website and it indicated that he would be there broadcasting as usual but I guess something else is up with him. I really enjoy listening to him.

I wonder if what’s going on is he and Premiere didn’t come to terms over money, but Premiere would still like to hold onto him… so he signed with GCN as a negotiating tactic. I doubt GCN is paying Lewis – he might even have to be buying time and selling his own ads.

Jason began syndication over a year ago, but lives and is still on in the Twin Cities. His main station is in Minneapolis / St. Paul, but they have changed from 100.3 KTLK to News Talk 1180. Here is the URL which explains it better: http://www.twincitiesnewstalk.com/main.html

Personally I just never thought he had the talent to make it. He doesn’t have a “voice” either, just nothing about him to make him stand out.

He needs to take up smoking cigarettes.

I used to live in Charlotte, so kind of pay a little attention to the the place (but less over time). He tried for the big time there, but I have the sense that he was phoning the show in from Minnesota. I didn’t come away with the sense he had any sense of the State of North Carolina, the history, the people, what Baptists believe, what’s special about Lance crackers, RC and moon pies, jacking up your 57 Chevy to go cruising on Saturday night, drinking a Cherry Lemon Sundrop with a goody’s headache powder, going to Concord for some Carolina BBQ, going to Myrtle Beach for the weekend, Tweetsie railroad, the Biltmore House, going into Bi-Lo and staring at the security guard with his rifle, going to the K&W cafeteria for meal, talking about the good old days of Rick Flair and Wahoo McDaniel. There are things you know about a place because you lived there, or at least you make an effort to find out what they are. American cities are not interchangeable. A lot of people in Charlotte are transplants – that’s true…. but once you get outside the city limits, they become few and far between.

So here is the scoop – During the first hour, Jadon mentioned he was back from “vacation” and he read about the speculation that he wasn’t coming back.

About half of the affiliates have moved to Andy Dean, one switched to Mark Levin. He probably has about 10-15 remaining affiliates. At least here, his “ratings” have been in decline.

Losing his Premiere connection means he is also gone from Sirius/XM. Syndicated hosts that mention Sirius/XM on the air tend to have trouble getting and keeping terrestrial affiliates.
