If a dictator took over America, what would you do?

Let’s say hypothetically, 10 years from now – long after Barack Obama has retired and goes back to writing books – a future President or military leader seizes control of the Government, dissolves Congress and imposes martial law to deal with a “crisis”.

Would you actively resist it?   Would you passively oppose it?  Would you try to get “on the inside” and destroy the dictatorship?  Would you just hide and protect yourself until it blows over?  Would you “support the military” and join in protecting the “country”?

Glenn Beck and Michael Savage lately have both been stirring up anti-German hatred based on the notion that Germans are genetically evil by their nature.  This is the most offensive type of racism there is – but because of what Hitler did during his reign, it is now permitted to engage in German stereotypes, applying them to people 3 generations removed from the people who did the terrible things under Hitler.

What would you have done if you were 17 years old growing up in Germany as Hitler came to power?  Would you have joined the resistance to Hitler?

Are you sure?   Are you being honest with yourself or just saying what makes you feel good?

Hopefully, we in the United States will never by put in that situation to have to make those kinds of decisions, but there are many things about this country that I would not have believed could happen 10 years ago.

Wait 10 years? You obviously didn’t hear Governor Perdue’s “joke” about cancelling the congressional elections in 2012. Thank God I heard even a liberal say that she is not the brightest bulb on the tree.

I deliberately made the hypothetical way off in the future to avoid certain complications. There are certainly people expressing concern that it could be a much shorter time line.

    Wait, Obama actually *writes* books?

The only people who can effectively “actively resist” a dictatorship is the U.S. military. They have nearly all the guns and bombs and the means to deliver them. People don’t realize when they hear the phrase “our servicemen protect our freedom” that the real enemies to our freedoms are not external. The scariest scenario is a U.S. military coup either in cooperation with – or in opposition to – the Federal government. The only protection against the form such a coup would take are the sworn oaths taken by our military officers to defend the Constitution against all enemies, both foreign and DOMESTIC. If that oath ever starts to be taken for granted, look out.

I’m especially proud of the Michael Moore answer to this poll from 2009:

and one more closely mirroring my hypothetical:

I think the Russians who watched the Bely Dom taking tank rounds with Boris Yeltsin wobbling nearby thought their monolithic government to be untouchable. I’m old, but I would resist and aid others in resisting as much and as often and as long as I could. Do I think such an eventuality is possible? Absolutely. Dominant monolithic government seems to be what libtards want with all their pink little hearts. If they succeed, and it looks to me like they are succeeding, one day it will be Big Brother against us all.
