Unless you really follow war closely, you probably have never heard of the Lord’s Resistance Army. They purport to be trying to create a government based on the 10 commandments, which is at variance with their actions

President Ronald Reagan today announced he is authorizing 100 US combat troops to travel to central africa to kill the leaders of the LRA rebel movement.
This demonstration of Peace through Military Strength comes only a day after President Reagan won 3 victories in the Senate to push through free trade agreements.
Has any other Nobel Peace Prize recipient killed more people than Barack Obama?
Yassir Arafat would have been glad to genocide an entire ethnic group if he had only had the chance. (He also won the “Peace Prize”)
Yeah, I havn’t heard of this crew: ” Lord’s Resistance Army. ”
So these guys are not muzzies ? We’ll then, of course we’re after them.
President Clinky had us on the side of the Muzzies in the 90’s in the Balkans. You see where that got us in 2001.
This probably won’t end well either.
I bumped into their name a while ago – they sort of wander around the no-man’s land around Sudan, Uganda (Is Idi Amin dead yet? – wasn’t he in Saudi Arabia?), Congo and the Central African republic.
Any time you’re talking about sub saharan Africa, religion diverges a bit from what you might expect. Indigenous religions freely are comingled with Christianity. Haiti is probably a good analogy. Missionaries teach the little African children to sing “Jesus Loves me”, but the childeren don’t understand English. It makes for good fund raising videos back home. Once the Europeans are done handing out free food and aren’t watching, then they go back to consulting the witch doctor about the evil spirits.
Here is a bit more background

Oh, my bad. I meant Barack Obama.
Woodrow Wilson probably qualifies to your question (1919). Teddy Roosevelt would be another. A lot of the time, the award goes to a group rather than a person, like naming Facebook Person of the Year.
Frank Billings Kellogg is an interesting winner.
