Tonight Shelton is playing Guilford in High School Football.
WELI-AM, the local Clear Channel news/talk station in New Haven is covering the game, hosted by George “The Coach” DeMaio
The pregame stuff is going on, and The Coach is telling us the names of all the officials and all that important stuff…. in the background you can hear the PA announcer say “And now, the National Anthem”…
Back to the “Coach”: “And now we’re going to take a break for the National Anthem”.
Silly me, I thought he meant he was going to show respect for the United States and stop blathering about the name of the line judge and referee so we could hear the National Anthem.
What he really meant was “Guys, back at the studio – get ready to roll the advertisements for that hot dog place that sponsors this game”.
New Haven has been an official sanctuary city for illegal immigrants for a number of years, so I guess I see why WELI needs to dump out to a commercial for foot long chili cheeze dogs so as to not offend any listeners from Mexico who listen to high school football games on a Friday night.
Libs for a century have been doing their best to erode the underpinnings of the nation, from patriotism to religion to family values to civil speech. The darker and more perverse the better. I’d say the fruits of such industry are ready for harvest. The bastards.
When the anthem starts or is announced and your mic happens to be live, guess what, you air it. You should air it anyway, though stations often plan it out to be away for the anthem. But if you are live at the site, shut up and air the anthem. It should be a no-brainer, even in this Obama era.
Let’s stir the pot a bit more: How many of the radio show producers that respectfully air the national anthem would also air the pre-game invocation (prayer) if an invocation is conducted? And if they air the anthem but not the invocation, I think I already know how they would reply if asked whether they are familiar with the fourth and final stanza of Francis Scott Key’s famous poem. 😉
