Cox dumps its 2 New York area AM stations

Almost all of Cox’s stations are in Dixie – I believe the stations in Stamford and Norwalk (WSTC/WNLK) may have dropped into Cox’s lap when Buckley Radio wanted to acquire WOR-AM and needed to unload them since they overlap into the New York City market.

Over the past few months I’ve mentioned my suspicion that Cox Radio is not doing well, along with telling the story of John LaBarca, who was dumped by Cumulus a few years ago with no warning – he wound up at the Cox stations ultimately.

So Cox is selling the two stations to Sacred Heart College which will convert them to non-commercial news talk (EWTN?)

This is painful to watch.

  1. Then no more Neal Boortz over the air even in the fringe areas of the nation’s No. 1 market. WSTC puts a listenable signal over the immediate north Jersey shore.
