Contrary to the Glenn Beck “Buy food you can store for 30 years” fear mongering, the near record harvest of wheat means that there won’t be a shortage of bread any time soon. When it goes back below $3 a loaf is a different question.
Beck will ignore this and focus on the peanut butter price increase.
I’m just guessing he and his family don’t eat a lot of peanut butter these days.
Here’s an Idea, Why don’t we sell the wheat to….. Saudi Arabia and some other oil rich countries for , let’s say somewhere in the price of around $ 9.99 9/10 per pound.
See the world “global” in the title.
The story talks about bumper crops of wheat in Russia, Ukraine, Canada and Australia.
You could try your idea, but I suspect the Saudis will politely turn down your generous offer.
The U.S. probably could have had a bumper wheat crop like Canada, but we’re too busy growing corn so that we can convert high quality gasoline into corn syrup.
To the degree there is a longer growing season (for whatever reason), that is to Canada’s benefit. “Global Warming” is not all bad. The models also predict that more heat in the Indian ocean would move the Monsoons further North and move the Southern border of the Sahara Desert north.
I heard someone talking in the past few days about Gore’s “red herring” about the receding glacier on Mount Kilimanjaro – that the issue is the deforestation in the area is causing the moisture in the air to drop which means the snows don’t happen. Don’t know if that’s true, but a true scientist would want to test that theory.
We can’t let actual science get in the way of a political agenda. Just route all federal science research funding to projects that will re-enforce the political agenda and “voila” — Al Gore can stand up and say “the science (that the we paid for with taxpayer money) is IN”
