Jake Hartford is a legend in his own mind in Chicagoland. That’s not hard to imagine when you’re married to Miss Dill Pickle.
He’s a weekend morning guy with an odd sense of humor, but a really smart and clever guy – he used to be on WLS-AM, then went to work terrorising the liberals on WCTP-AM for a while, and now he’s back on WLS-AM where he belongs.

Twice a year, like clockwork, Jake tries his best to unconfuse the people of Chicago about Daylight Saving Time, especially those people over in Indiana.
Now that Daylight Saving Time is starting this weekend, Jake will be telling his audience to be sure to turn their clocks forward an hour – remember the old saying “Fall Forward, Spring Back”. Radio audiences love nothing more than calling in to correct the host.
Like Phil Hendrie, after a decade of doing it, finding people who don’t yet”get it” is harder and harder, but it is usually an amusing show. The fun starts at 6 AM Saturday, which is 7 AM on the East Coast, and 4 AM in California, and either 6 AM or 7 AM in Indiana and 4 AM in Arizona, but 5 AM on Sunday.
I worked for a station owner who was so cheap that he would always make sure to fire the overnight guy between the time he worked an extra hour for DST and the time he’d collect on it when the clocks went back. Or is it forward?
I grew up riding the Greyhound bus when we went on trips. I have to assume that one night a year, the overnight bus routes pull over by the side of the road for an hour, and another night people in stations at 3 AM show up an hour too early for the bus. Same for Amtrak.
