Mayor Bloomberg is trying to create a ban on how people use their food stamps (about 43 million people are currently receiving food stamps).
He wants to ban the purchase of beverages sweetened by sugar using food stamps – a program which is not paid for by the City of New York and over which it has no jurisdiction to set rules.

I would like to see all food stamps banned, of course.
Food stamps bad. Farm bill, which subsidizes corn to produce corn syrup and sweeteners, etc worse. Distruction of the body by sugar the worst. Sugar may be the single worst thing for your health. Gov’t subsidies to provide cheap soft drinks, etc. And what a surprise the obesity and diabetes. We do it to ourselves.
Sugar (cane sugar to be specific) is not the problem, per se.
High Fructose Corn Syrup is one of the real culprits in our food.
Of course, USDA sees it a bit differently; there are subsidies at stake:
“The Agriculture Department, historically averse to restricting the use of food stamps, has said, ‘There are no bad foods, only bad diets.’ “
Ha ha ha… then why is the FDA doing sting operations on Amish dairy farmers?
“…imposing restrictions on food stamps would require retailers to reprogram computers and embarrass some customers at the checkout counter.”
In fact, there were so many priceless (absurd) comments from ‘opponents’ and ‘officials’, it seemed like the article was written as satire.
“Susan Davison, director of corporate affairs at Kraft Foods, whose products include Kool-Aid and Oreo cookies…”
MY GOD, we CANNOT allow them to stop “drinking the Kool-Aid”!!
😉
