Back when the channel tunnel under the English Channel – connecting England with France – was being considered, much of the opposition to building it was that the English Channel historically was a buffer protecting England from the Kings of Europe fighting each other. [I’m using England on purpose, not United Kingdom]
England and Europe are on less than perfect terms at the moment. England decided it was not ready to end the British Pound and join the EuroZone, but it is a member of the EU. England has refused to commit itself to share in propping up the Euro, although a collapse of the Euro would have a devastating effect on England as well.
The above story starts by mentioning that the country is actively making plans on how to evacuate British citizens out of Europe in the event of collapse and panic in Europe. That’s interesting if true – but governments always make contingency plans “just in case”.
The article then takes on a more sinister note…. that if things turn ugly,Greece is prepared to suddenly demand reparations for things they claim happened during World War II – hoping to pin “collective responsibility” on people who weren’t born until 40 years after the war was over. What if Germany (hypothetically) announced it had seized all of the assets of Goldman Sachs because of the firebombing of Dresden?
The article points out that much of the reason for World War II (and the rise of Hitler, which they don’t mention) was the demand for reparations by France from World War I, and France retaking the disputed Alsace Lorraine area as part of France – it was the only part of Germany (from 1871-1918) with the resources and industry that had any hope of generating enough wealth to pay France those reparations.
So for some reason, this writer from the Daily Mail seems eager to stir up anti-German sentiment with the goal of provoking Germany into doing something. This is all very unhealthy. My dislike for the people in London grows by the day.
I’m not sure of Conservative London Mayor Boris Johnson, but the previous Mayor Ken Livingstone, aka “Red Ken,” was a PC-wallowing leftist on the infrared side of communist (that word always receives lower case from me). The PC imperative now runs so high in England, especially London, these days — I have several British friends — that snot-flingingly snarling Islamic louts get virtually a free pass in saying and practically in doing as they “bloody” well please, and none dare call bullshit on it. So, taking a page from der Führer, the industrious Jerrys present fine targets as scapegoats. While the venomous snake of Islam coils quietly around Britannia’s legs and the bottom threatens to drop out of their economy (ours, too, regrettably), the Germans must look at the British and ponder the old Teutonic saw: Ein Unglück kommt selten allein (Disasters rarely happen alone). Tick tock tick tock.
