GAO blasts Radio Marti’s operators for not providing accurate information

U.S. government agency says Radio/TV Marti’s bosses failed to properly inform Congress:  Miami Herald

The GAO has released a harsh report saying the BBG failed to answer the most basic questions about its audience size and costs per listener.  The Broadcast Board of Governors runs the US radio and TV government proganda opeations around the world…  Voice of America, Radio Free Europe and others… (those not aimed at the United States).

One of the landmark “accomplishments” of the Reagan Administration was establishing Radio/TV Marti, a radio and TV service beamed into Cuba from a balloon hovering out in international waters tethered 10,000 feet in the air

At least today, much of the “news” concerns Republican attempts to block Cuban Americans from traveling to/from Cuba and sending money to relatives back “home”.  A flaw in starting a government propoganda operation is your assumption about who will be controlling the government in 20 years.

TV Marti is resorting to trying to get its programs into Cuba by DVD and USB memory sticks.

Sure their budget is just a drop in the bucket, but maybe it’s time to pull the plug and stop pandering to the people in Miami who carry on the pretense that someday they really want to “return” to Cuba.

  1. With idiots like Michael Moore, Sean Penn and Maxine Waters championing the Castros and communist Cuba, I don’t mind spending at least a little something to broadcast to Cuba just so the dictatorship can jam it and we can point that out to anyone who wants to pretend it’s “free territory in the Americas,” as they laughingly say on Radio Havana Cuba.
