The ball drops on WOR-AM in New York

Everyone knew it was coming, just not when and a few details. Clear Channel is buying WOR-AM – Clear Channel is maxed on how many FM stations they can own in New York, but are still allowed to own an AM station – Buckley offered a good price (by historical standards) and Clear Channel snapped it up. WOR and WABC-AM have fairly comparable daytime signals, covering all of New York City and fringe coverage up to about New Haven CT

So the transformation begins – Joy Browne is gone, so is Mike Huckabee. Everyone expects Rush and Huckabee to trade stations. Hannity has a special joint Citadel(Cumulus) & Clear Channel contract that might make him stay on WABC for a while. I would expect to see Glenn Beck on WOR right away.

Christmas week is a great time for change. In 10 days America gets all the sports you could ever want…

Or maybe Clear Channel bought WOR for sports!

With the end of the college football season and being near the playoffs for the pros the stations switching to a sports format would be wise to sell long-term advertising contracts.

With so many format changes and other switcheroos going on, I wonder if that will drive more people to search out an Internet stream for their ‘favorite’ talk show host?

  2. Found out at the family Christmas Eve festivities that one of my nephews will be an intern at Clear Channel/NY next semester. Ironic that I am far more interested in the goings-on there than he is.

Andy Dean and California’s John & Ken have arrived.

Ron Kuby and Rita Cosby have also been filling in
