Ford made its move this month at CES to own the car “radio” business – creating an open standard to interface their entertainment system with smart phone apps based on an open API that competitors can use for free, and then app developers only need to develop one version of their app – Clear Channel’s iHeartRadio is already on board.
On a related note, Fox News Network (TV) is urging people to go to the Facebook page of SiriusXM and object to SiriusXM not agreeing to terms to continue carrying the Fox Radio Network, while continuing to charge subscribers the same monthy fee.
Fox News Network went on to say that SiriusXM gave no indication that they intend to agree to the terms to carry the audio of Fox New Network (TV) as well once the current contract expires in August.
How is SiriusXM related to this? Well, with iHeart’s dozens of stations available, as well as other content, there is no reason to pay the high SiriusXM fees, and no reason for SiriusXM to pay high content fees for being a carrier any more than there is for your ISP to pay content fees for being a carrier.
