The Washimgton law sets up a legal framework for licensed growers and retailers to sell up to 1 oz of pot legally. It doesn’t permit people growing their own or distribution outside the system where the State of Washington takes their cut of the action.
Perhaps “progressive” will now join the people urging the US to get out of the UN and get the UN out of the US?
Using Libya and Syria as the precedent, look for the UN to start bombing US military installations inside the United States to implement regime change for ignoring the United Nations. Look up in the sky – it’s a drone with a blue helmet!
What was that drone event that was reported? Did anyone confess to sending it up for a look-see?
Where is the UN’s Kofi Annan when we need him now?

Money = Power and these folks don’t want to get off the gravy train despite the debt crisis, the greedy selfish SOBs. 😉
While prohibition of alcohol may have been well intentioned, it diverted enormous amounts of money that created the wealth of the Kennedy family and this bizarre cult of people who want to create a hereditary monarchy called “Camelot”, not to mention Al Capone and probably 1000s of mobsters who we never heard of.

The Women’s Christian Temperence Union Union was one of the more prominent of the early Progressive movement, pushing for women’s suffrage and Prohibition, but also for the right of unions to organize and to fight for “world peace”.
I learned about the WCTU as a child – my parents met at Chautauqua New York. The WCTU had a house right next to the main venue where the symphony had its concerts. They sponsored reading events and held meetings. The last time I was there, the sign out front was gone. Worldwide membership is down to about 5,000 according to Wikipedia.
A little more about this if this is new to you

Look for the News Reels that showed bootleggers selling alcohol outside elementary schools. I take them at their face value and believe they were not staged propaganda – anytime you constrict supply, the profit margin goes up and there is a much larger incentive to sell.
Ronald Regan’s legacy is the crack heads of the late 1980s and early 1990s- his clampdown on the people that imported big bulky marijuana made them switch to deadly, easier to conceal drugs like cocaine so that they did not need to risk as many trips.

Interesting story. Perhaps a good idea, but….the nazi-like CIA would never give up their cartel in this country.
