Want to die? Get the iHeartradio app

Talk about odd marketing – I was listening to WRDU-FM trying to straighten which station is which (Boston’s WTKK call sign was taken by Clear Channel and moved to North Carolina)

Then I hear this odd promo for the iHeartRadio about someone who was found dead and he died from getting the iHeartRadio with its 1,500 station selection, and he ended up boogying himself to death.

The station plays geriatric music (aka Classic Rock) so that’s more than a hypothetical outcome. Move over grandpa.

That crazyass “Iheartradio” crap. I try to find stations that don’t use it.
Liquidcompass, and my favorite, “streamtheWorld” Loads fast, no video commercials and very little graphics.
I like the simple ones, even V5.Player.abacast isn’t too bad.

go away (*heartradio) and take flash with you , LOL

I’m with youse guys. I always look for independent streams. One of the reasons I surf the interweb to listen is that i can pick up shows from across the nation and part of the experience is picking up their own stream from their web sites.

Hey Art, I swear I think we listened to WRDU a couple years ago on the way to Wilmington NC , while going by Raleigh. I thought they were a country music station? They played a Kellie Pickler song, and I asked my wife , “what happened to her?”

That sounds plausible and that’s where the station was. Rush Limbaugh used to be on heritage station WSJS-AM, and Clear Channel wanted to pull the show “in house”, so they changed WRDU-FM to “Rush Radio” about two years ago.

When WTKK-FM in Boston gave up on talk radio, clear Channel scarfed up the call sign and moved it to a music station, and last week swapped the call signs. Rush Radio is now WTKK-FM and WRDU is now classic rock

BTW- WRCV was owned by RCA through its ownership of NBC (before GE bought RCA). Here are two interesting reader comments on youtube:

          ” BobWXXI 11 months ago

The comic remote bit Jay Lawrence was doining referred to the studio as “the WTAM building.” What goes around comes around–the station is now WTAM once more.”

          … . and:

          “John Fenner 1 year ago

NBC didn’t learn there lesson from the extortion they pulled on Westinghouse, as they would screw Conan O’Brien out of the Tonight Show in favor of chinboy Leno 54 years later. The FCC should order that reversed too.” 😉

Correct, for many years (starting in the mid-1980’s) WRDU was a classic/hard rock station. They then switched to Country for a time (part of 2006 through part of 2009) before moving to the all talk “Rush Radio” format.
