Happy Cinco de Mayo

Hola, amigos y amigas y people in transition from amigo to amiga.

Glenn Beck needs to do a special on this holiday. This is an entire chapter of history I knew nothing about.

At the same time the US was involved in Civil War in the 1860s (with France encouraging the Confederacy), France was busy invading Mexico to try to collect on government debts owed to European banks.

It’s a bit odd then that Cinco de Mayo has morphed into an anti-Anglo holiday rather than an anti-French sentiment. Once the US Civil War was over in 1865, the United States sent troops to the border with Mexico and forced France to withdraw its occupation.

We’ve just seen the future. Government Debt does matter.

“The principal representative of the British Treasury at the Paris Peace Conference, John Maynard Keynes, resigned in 1919 in protest at the scale of the demands, warning correctly that it was stoking the fires for another war in the future.”

Everywhere I look, I see irony and contradiction

Had you seen what Mr. Seymour said he saw?

Bill Cullen was from Pittsburgh, where I grew up. He was a very smart man – you can see that right away in his reasoning. He already knew the answer.

I didn’t know until today that he had been crippled by polio in the 1930s and that was carefully hidden from the TV audience

Somewhat interesting is apparently the young people on YouTube made the focus that there is a Winston cigarette logo on the desk, before the government decided it needed to protect us from ourselves. Cullen was a life long smoker and died from lung cancer. I celebrate his freedom of choice about how he lived his life.
