Survey Says!

What great timing – it’s almost like my IL House Rep was reading my thoughts through my tin foil hat – he wants my opinion – Democracy in action!

Question # 1)

image

So this is my Illinois Representative. His focus is the Land of Lincoln, not national issues.

So what are my concerns?

  • Outlawing red light cameras
  • Converting toll roads into freeways
  • Allow conceal carry and prohibit more restrictive city ordinances on gun ownership
  • Implement affirmative action to require school districts to hire more male teachers in line wither numbers in the general population
  • Reduce taxes on “the rich” that are driving them out of the state

Part 2)

Three bans and one increase fees – wonder which political party he is in… His big legislative agenda is bike paths and dog parks

How about instead of that:

– implement a state concealed carry gun law and comply with the US Supreme Court
– mandatory NRA gun safety training for all state and local employees and elected officials
– mandatory NRA gun safety training for all public high school students
– hire more male teachers in the public schools
– permit trained teachers to have firearms on school property
– expedite gun permits of victims of violent crime or people who fear domestic violence
– prohibit using zoning laws to limit locations where a firearms dealer may operate a business

“Three bans and one increase fees – wonder which political party he is in” Can’t tell without more information (which is elsewhere in the article). Both incumbent parties have supported that for decades.

Here are a few from the recent decades past: ecstasy, bath salts, synthetic marijuana, abortion, pornography, sodomy (oral and anal sex, both heterosexual and homosexual), encrypted communication where the government does not have the encryption keys. Fees increases for marijuana possession (mandatory stamp tax), prescription drug plans fees, sports stadiums, traffic tickets, tolls, and tax penalties.

I like your ideas as the appropriate issues of concern that legislators need to be ‘polling’ their constituent base. But, of course it is Illinois so there is little to no hope the legislators will take up those issues. Consider that someday you may need to relocate to a warmer climate full of friendly people, and better ‘concealed carry’ laws.

  3. Nidster says:

Of course you could fill out the form and rate each of the following issues a “10” a) reduce spending; b) reduce violent crime; c) more jobs and development; d) cutting taxes. But, then it would just end up in the waste basket.

The third question which I didn’t post yet is how you think Illinois should cope with its $100 billion in unfounded government pension liabilities

  4. Nidster says:

A shortfall of that magnitude will not be easily solved. The state is facing insolvency. Hells Bells, the whole system is swirling out of control, by design. Get ready for the worst. Get your personal protection device and make plans to head for safer places. Hopefully we have a year to prepare.

The next Tetrad (4 consecutive blood moons) begins on April 14, 2014, which is Passover, the 2nd lunar eclipse is October 8, 2014 which is the Feast of Tabernacles, the 3rd lunar eclipse is April 4, 2015, Passover again, the 4th lunar eclipse is September 28, 2015, Feast of Tabernacles again. Weird how they occur on Jewish feast days, real weird.

The 2 dealing with Tetrads are titled: Tetrad Analysis and Lunar Tetrad Pattern

    • Art Stone says:

Not that weird since the Jewish calendar was based on the lunar calendar and total lunar eclipses occur only near the equinoxes. Passover is the Friday after the first full moon following the vernal equinox. Lunar eclipses by definition always happen when the moon is full – as the earth is exactly in line between the moon and the sun.

Completeness of eclipses are also affected by the elliptical orbits and the distance between the three bodies… Unless Copernicus was wrong and the universe revolves around the Earth.

The Chinese New Year is lunar, as is the annual autumn Chinese Moon Festival.

    LOL Dorks!
Like Nidster said, State is facing insolvency and they are fiddling. Well, if we don’t really look at it, it’s not really a problem, it’s just ‘Enron’ numbers after all.
In Virginia, that ‘court jester’ (fool is libel) that was Governor, now senator Kaine endorsed a tax on Cat ownership. Umm hmmm, yes. Everyone knows you don’t ‘own’ cats. He likes taxes, it didn’t pass.
Good luck with that survey Art.

I watched the video and there is nothing about it I would dispute. I left NASDAQ in 2002 after designing the first generation of the New NASDAQ. When I asked how many transactions per second it had to be able to handle in a single stock, I was given the number 150 tps.

I engaged the senior management – think about what you’re saying – at 150 updates a second, how does a human brain absorb that and react to the information in a meaningful way. At maybe 15 updates a second, your eyes can’t distinguish individual frames. You’re asking me to design a trading platform that will not be humans trading, but computer algorithms competing with each other and gaming communications bottlenecks. If that’s the future, think through what that means. I agreed to stay only until integration test was complete. My last day, I simulated a flash crash to point out how without humans in the loop or rules to pause trading, prices dropping to a penny were inevitable. None of the people I worked with are still there. The company that we always dealt with because their systems would malfunction ended up taking over the computer systems. The Facebook IPO mess was not a big shock to me

  9. Art Stone says:

The wired article is just plain wrong.

The “photo tool” is just your driver’s license picture made available to a potential employer so they can look at it, you, and your driver license to see you’re the person in the picture and the license is authentic and you are allowed to work. There is nothing in that about biometric data or face recognition. This is data that DHS already has – what is new is access to your official photo by your employer. If we really want to hold employers responsible to not hire illegals, they need reliable data.

The biometric data (not specified in the bill but probably fingerprints, retina scan, maybe DNA) applies only to those people applying for this provisional resident status (aka amnesty). Since birth and identity documents from other countries may be unreliable, gathering biometric data at least fixes people’s identity claims at a specific point in time. They won’t be able to get away with making up new names or multiple identities. The biometric data will also be used for criminal background checks in their country of origin.

Neither requirement seems like it is unreasonable IF you accept the premise that we want to better control immigration and visas.
