Confirmation – USPS photographs every piece of mail

Back when we had the anthrax scare (which just oddly seemed to be using anthrax from our own government weapons lab), one of the casualties was a 94 year old woman in Oxford Connecticut, the next town over from where I lived. At the time I had written (and have mentioned it a couple times since) one of the odd things about that case that was mentioned in the local media before they clammed up.

Very quickly after it happened, it was announced publicly that she had been exposed to the anthrax not because she was a target, but because one of the anthrax letters had passed through a sorting machine just a few ahead of the one addressed to hers. That was an amazing disclosure at the time – because for them to know that, every letter passing through the sorting machine must be being logged – either with some kind of invisible tracking ID or the outside of the letters being photogrpahed in the same way that checks are photographed and microfilmed going through a check sorting machine.

It’s always been the case that postal mail going internationally is routinely opened and read, including our government. While a “safety” envelope hides an amateur attempt to read mail by holding it up to a light, I think it would be naive to think there aren’t techniques to read the contents of an envelope without opening it at all.

I sure hope that every package that is delivered by UPS, Fedex and other non-government delivery companies also provide details of every page they ship!

I don’t know about you, but I feel much safer now. You can never be too safe, I say!

When you finish with your diatribe (conspiracy nut !) could you pass the Doritos and dip. TV Land is having a Nanny and the Professor marathon after the game – so get it out of your system now. Jeeze.

I was just on the usps.gov and was looking for a link to find the vacation post cards that my grandma sent me when I was a kid, but I could not find a search box for it. What is our tax money being spent for?!? First of all the post office doesn’t even own usps.gov.

Don’t worry guys, since the sequester it’s a pretty good bet the funds to read/open or photograph the mail has been shut down. I figure at some point in the not too distant future, mail volume will be reduced to nothing more than mass advert mailings and a few birthday/Christmas cards.
