It has images of the PowerPoint presentation which has been confirmed to be authentic. One little tidbit not yet in the mainstream stories is that Dropbox is next to come online. It’s reasonable to assume that any service offering you “free” remote storage in the “cloud” is turning over data.
Microsoft was the first to join PRISM – a logical inference is they snuck a back door into Windows Servers that allows remote access without the knowledge of the server’s owner. Back when FindAnISP was running in a high power data center, I had some weird events where my server was behaving like another server on the subnet was playing games trying to monitor my traffic, or maybe doing a man in the middle attack – I was logging all traffic that didn’t match something my server should have been sent.
The question I’m pondering is – who leaked this and what are their motives? This is exactly the kind of thing Manning (the guy who leaked the diplomatic cables to Wikileaks) would have had access to. China also would likely have this and might be sending a message if we keep pushing them to stop hacking US Government computers. Once the data is gathered, it’s a flawed assumption that it will stay secure in perpetuity.
This might also be the start of payback from the AP. Obama being forced to defend the Patriot Act is a strange irony. Pretty soon, Obama will be a “right winger”
This and the other stories are not being broken by the US movie studio news media. They like the surveillance because it enables government enforcement of their content copyrights.
With O’Commie poking the center (Rice @ NSA-WH, Holder Firm, OCare screw up…..) and following the radical playbook (overload gov’t obligations and collapse) I wonder if this isn’t push back…. we can create term ending tumult for you and the rest of the summer help. Learn our dance Monsieur. It isn’t coming from the RNC that’s for sure and it isn’t coming from ‘I’ll have another’ I’m the Speaker. Speaker in absentia? China, Putin, a little Jerusalem, mebbie? I wouldn’t guess the financial side – we’re pretty much in a long term s**t-storm as it is. The broadsword message has been delivered publicly – the answer an acceptance may not be – have to look are behavior. Something out of the ordinary like the Chief Justice’s constitutional sell out on O’Commie care.
Social media must yield an amazing amount of data to be used….how? Same for emails, phone calls & #’s. This is all just a game of connect-the-dots that will end very badly for some people.
I remember after 911 a congressman (R) was raising lots of awareness regarding the method which allowed the FBI and intells agencies to know exactly who committed the crimes, before they act was even done. Basically it boiled down to the intells sifting through lots and lots of data.
This is sorta the whole thesis of the TV series, “Person of Interest”. Anyway back to the congressman, he was told to shut-up and stay quiet. The answers he was coming up with were too close to the truth and he could not be allowed to raise awareness.
The leaked, top-secret document obtained by the Guardian, if true, could become a catalysis for changing minds, even in the establishment media and political parties. I hold little to no hope the low information voters will awaken in substantial numbers unless the establishment media truthfully and repeatedly reports the story. Hells Bells, I hold little to no hope the establishment media and political parties will do anything other than gloss over this story and make excuses for what is being done. They will downplay this story and it will be treated as usual, “Nothing to see here folks, just move along, don’t look to the sides and pay no attention cause this is all just crazy right-wing, conservative conspiracy stuff.”
I will keep my eyes open and an ear to the ground to see if any real preventive action takes place in Congress. If it does not, and it probably will not happen, that would confirm my concerns that POTUS will continue to lead us into a police state that will last for generations. At least through the remainder of this century.
Too much data is worse than not enough – gathering everything about everything means you have zero chance of spotting the important needle in the 40 acres of hay. The best you can hope for is forensics after the fact. Since many of these attackers plan to die in the attack, there will be no trial nor punishment.
Since the government still is incapable of stating the motive in the Fort Hood attack and the government’s role in facilitating his attack, it’s clear the government in the end is not really searching for the truth.
Those testifying before Congress showed little interest in searching for the truth… in fact, most of them seemed more interest in hiding the truth.
Here is an example of the misleading information:
http://www.wired.com/threatlevel/2013/06/nsa-numbers/
Good link…leads to another article by Kevin Poulsen “Whistle-Blower: Feds Have a Backdoor Into Wireless Carrier — Congress Reacts”
“A U.S. government office in Quantico, Virginia, has direct, high-speed access to a major wireless carrier’s systems, exposing customers’ voice calls, data packets and physical movements to uncontrolled surveillance, according to a computer security consultant who says he worked for the carrier in late 2003.”
Understanding the past behavior of the perps who plan to die in an attack (regardless if that occurs or not) in order to develop a model or algorithm to detect it in the future requires reconstructing a lot of data, but at least there is a thesis to test. Got to save a lot of data over time to do that and it appears the infrastructure to continue that is being expanded in Bluffdale, UT.

I traveled to Richmond VA and back home yesterday on I-64, & I-81. About a 485 mile round trip. I lost track of the number of camera’s VDOT has along the interstate now.
I guess some do Facial recognition? I bet most read your license plates. They do a low resolution stream that the general public can see, on your computer. Low resolution is shown on the TV weather report, so you won’t become too paranoid about having your picture taken and to through you off the scent that they also have a High resolution pic that will scare the crap out of you. (NSA, FBI,CIA) gets that one.
I dislike all this surveillance. Only saw one cop,
I latched onto several ‘ blockers’ and made good time, LOL

Check out this short 11 min clip from 2011 – it nailed it but no one was listening:

Yep, you are right CC, nailed it.
Now I am going to listen to Armed American Radio.

Thanks Parrott. I hope you are still enjoying that VLC. If you ever have an issue with it, maybe you just need to restart VLC and try again?
If you have any stream playing in Windows Media Player, it will play in VLC. If you have an issue, try this : start the steam in Windows Media Player, then in Windows Media Player from the menu bar, do an “ALT-F, P ” to see the File Properties. On the bottom of the File tab will be a line that says “Location:” with the URL you should use. (You mayfirst have to change your preferences in Windows Media Player for it to show you the menu- I believe the default is to hide the menu)
Yep, viewed that clip the day after he gave that speech. Glad he did give it, but for all the good it did, da ObamaNation could/will throw a bunch of low-info voters into a FEMA camp, tell them the conservatives did it to them, and they would believe him. Yes, they are that stupid.
“According to Trevor Trimm, executive director of the Freedom of the Press Foundation, the famed Pentagon Papers whistle-blower Daniel Ellsberg called Snowden the hero for whom he’s been waiting 40 years.”

Viva La WhistleBlower!!!
“Knee-jerk defenders of the police state such as Senator Lindsey Graham declared that he was “glad” the government was collecting Verizon phone records—including his own—because the government needs to know what the enemy is up to. Those who take an oath to defend the Constitution from its enemies both foreign and domestic should worry about such statements.” – Ron Paul
from his essay today:

The Constitution is surrounded by its enemies, both foreign and domestic, and they envision a ‘book burning party’ some day soon.
There was a blurb in Forbes written by a guy who grew up in the .uk saying he didn’t understand the fuss – because after all the top responsibility of a government is to protect itself. He couldn’t have made the case more clearly why the United States are no longer colonies of England.
So did Lindsay Graham just say he was an enemy of the United States?
One of the earlier things government started doing was demanding billing records from electric companies to look for homes that had higher than normal electric consumption – that by itself would then establish probable cause that a house might contain lights that might be used to grow marijuana in the basement.
Of course, in the future we won’t even need that excuse – we’ll “need” to search your house because you are wasting “our” national electricity by leaving your iPhone charger plugged in when not in use, or keeping sugary drinks in the refrigerator that can be accessed by your children without government approval
That bunch in Washington DC is disgusting. A lot of rumors running about ol’ ‘Easy Lindsey’, LOL
Kelly Ayoette should unhitch her wagon from Lindsey and ‘McClown’ and that crazy-ass amnesty bill, that Reid is peddling. No good is going to come from that !
She should join Rand and Ted cruz. I agree with Senator Cruz, the IRS should be dismantled and the building bull-dozed to the ground. Make that site a park or a Jiffy-Lube.
Thanks CC. I ‘m still fiddlin with VLC. maybe it dosn’t like XP? I have changed the plugin setting for it in FireFox and it asks now which I want to use. That’s ok.
I appreciate it

Let us hope some low-level military dufus doesn’t get the idea to launch a few cruise missiles some dark n’ dreary, stormy night in the direction of 38° 53′ 53.56″ N 77° 1′ 63.20″ W
Decisions of that magnitude need to be made at the least on the Warrant Officer level and skip the demolition permitting process.
I want to see the environmental impact study

Hey, that’s my back yard!
I can’t get Google maps / Earth to accept that address – I’m guessing it is in Utah somewhere
It seems to be a building in Manila in the Phillipines next to a Catholic cemetary
Philadelphia is 40 degrees North, Manila is in the tropics.
Go 7.3 miles west on US 30 (Lincoln Highway) from Schellsburg, PA. Go past Grandview Ship Hotel and scenic Mt Ararat, elevation 2464′, take a right on Fleegle Rd turns into Mountain Rd (aka Jokers Road) you will head north. Travel 1.45 miles, turn right on Bucktail Rd. (just past the Cape Cod style dwelling on your left.) Travel just a little ways, stop and walk to your left into the wooded area about 50 feet. Nothing much to see , but you made it to 40°03’02″ N, 78°45’22″ W
I was replying to Nidster’s message
Opps. Try 40.06 deg N, 78.9 deg W. I got the first set of coordinated from a site that had them wrong…. so I found them myself with the GOOG:

I didn’t like the plugin for Firefox and have clips and streams launch the VLC player itself and I never have any issues. I do remember having issues with the Firefox plugin and that it why I do not use it.
“Monitoring the records of as many as a billion phone calls, as some news reports have suggested, is no modest invasion of privacy. It is an extraordinary invasion of privacy. We fought a revolution over issues like generalized warrants, where soldiers would go from house to house, searching anything they liked. Our lives are now so digitized that the government going from computer to computer or phone to phone is the modern equivalent of the same type of tyranny that our Founders rebelled against.”
– Sen Rand Paul in essay in today’s Wall Street Journal
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424127887324634304578537720921466776.html
A number of years ago I was given a presentation on what Ameritech (RIP) was doing with Call Detail Records (they’re very much an off the shelf standard commodity). With deregulation, local phone service and long distance service were split – and the compromise was that the Baby Bells could set up long distance subsidiaries and then pitch unregulated nationwide long distance service, not just in their part of the country. Many million CDR rows were added every day building up a customer call history, including what long distance carrier handled the call.
With that information in hand, the Ameritech LD sales person could call up a business customer and tell them how much money they would save if they dropped AT&T long distance, or one of the emerging nationwide LD companies (Verizon, Level 3, megapath, XO, Sprint, MCI…). The customer needed to agree to let the salesman access their records – you needed the records to be captured ahead of time, with the control that the salesman could not access the data until they had proper authorization.
It would have been entirely possible to also use that data to identify the specific business customers who would have been the most likely customers – but that kind of data mining would be inappropriate as it would be Ameritech using data gathered in its monopoly to give an advantage to its own unregulated subsidiary. A few years later, if you called phone companies, you ended up having to give explicit permission to have your phone company share your data with third parties
Sen Rand Paul is looking for few good citizens: ““If we get 10 million Americans saying, ‘We don’t want our phone records looked at’ then maybe someone will wake up and things will change in Washington.”

Poll: How should government officials react to revelations made by NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden?
Choices
Abolish the NSA.
Award Edward Snowden the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
Repeal the Patriot Act, NDAA, FISA and every other law that violates Americans’ Fourth Amendment rights.
Consolidate the federal government’s 18 spy agencies into one much smaller agency fully accountable to the American people.
End U.S. foreign interventions in the Middle East and throughout the world to reduce the threat of terrorism.
Cut military spending by at least 60%.
Cut taxes and/or reduce government debt so freed-up money cannot be spent on another dangerous or unconstitutional program.
All of the above – except for awarding Snowden the medal.
All of the above – including awarding Snowden the medal. He’s a patriot and a hero.
A different combination of the above.
None of the above.
