This slipped by me – up until now, you could not carry a handgun in public in the State of Illinois (concealed or otherwise), which of course explains the 400+ murders by handgun last year in Chicago
So Governor Quinn had done what Illinois calls an amendatory veto – a veto with changes he wanted – like a ban on private property unless the owner put up signs saying “guns allowed”. Down to the last day to comply with Federal District court ruling to force the state to comply with the Supreme Court, they were down to “do nothing” in which case there would be no law (gasp!), accept the Governor’s changes, or override the veto. Both houses easily voted to override and enact their bill as written. Even some of the South Side Chicago Democrats are finally “getting it” that laws don’t prevent criminals from using guns.
I called a friend from work for some other reason and caught him on his other phone winding up a conversation with someone he was trying to buy ammunition from without success. One source says that for some reason, manufacturers won’t sell to people in Illinois.

With passage of concealed carry, it will just get worse. IL will require 18 hours of training, highest in the nation. The State Police have 6 months to set up the permitting process.
