I have done no searching at all for the past year, and done very little for the past 3 or so years because of the threat of random virus attacks which my ancient search tools are very vulnerable to….
There are probably 100 or so which are currently not counted – they stream, but the links were found by my automated tools to be invalid (typically a new streaming company took over)
Congrats on the upcoming milestone!!!
I have installed Emisoft Anti-Malware and Online Armor after I got hit with a Ransom Ware attack a few months ago. It prevents anything from installing unless you specifically approve it. It has stopped an occasional attack for me since then.
The challenge I have is that my most efficient tool is written in Visual Basic 6, with parts of the code from the late 1990s. It incorporates the rendering engine from IE 7 (I was looking today to see if I can get it to IE 8). Running as an application on the computer, it is a “trusted zone” VB control, which can do anything it wants.
For now, I run it sandboxed so a virus may think it has infected me, but it doesn’t. There is no equivalent Firefox/Mozilla or Chrome DLL that lets you drive a browser and traverse the retrieved document in Visual basic. I have other tools, but none are as simple to use.
10,302 and counting
Still have 2,200 stations with web sites that I haven’t checked yet, and 1,866 with no known web site
