I told you an exact number – so I must be telling you the truth.

The number has been certified by the Agency for Internet Statistics Verification, which is a subsidiary of the Global Society for the Study of Persistent Memory.

The phone company is the eyes and ears of the government. I don’t think Judge Green fully appreciated that when he let every Tom, Dick & Harry start their own phone company without the tight cooperation

The significant point there is they are handing over call switching records – calls that neither started nor ended from an AT&T phone. Back in the days of dial up Internet, one of the players was evading a tariff by routing calls through Canada. Just because you’re in Kentucky calling your grandma in Florida doesn’t mean the call didn’t go through Ontario

I remember that story. If memory serves (and it was 30 years ago that I read the book), Bamford’s “Puzzle Palace” said that the NSA would have calls routed through other countries so it could legally intercept them while they were outside our boundaries.

Also, we’d spy on foreigners of interest to their governments in return for the foreign governments spying on our citizens when it was not legal for the NSA to do so directly.

It is also cheaper for foreign companies to route calls through the US as a third country than to send them direcly to a second country.

This article above talks about the huge tax money being funneled to the phone companies for spying…. you connect the dots.

Don’t get me wrong, spying is not a bad thing – there are people more evil in this world than Dick Chaney and Nancy Pelosi combined! lol
