A lot can change in 30 years – I remember the income tax in North Carolina as a relatively minor tax back in 1981. It’s now the 10th highest in the the country, which might explain why the state’s economy has not been doing well under Democratic leadership the past few years.
Republican Governor Pat McCrory with his veto proof legislature is passing all kinds of “crazy” laws like requiring photo IDs to vote, blocking police for destroying guns unless the serial number has been removed, requiring abortion clinics to meet the standards of an outpatient surgery center…
They are lowering the incoming tax rate from the current 7.75% to 5.75%, raises the standard deduction from $3000 to $7500…. but the goal for next year is to totally end the state income tax.
How? Not by cutting spending, of course. The plan is to broaden the base of the state sales tax to include services – so you would pay a consumption tax on your insurance, lawyer fees, car repairs, dry cleaning, etc… and maybe bump up the rate a few percent to 8%.

The 10+% sales tax rate here in Chicago is brutal (it varies depending on which community you’re in)
Watch out for the Delaware game – they have no “sales” tax but instead have a “revenue tax” where the seller pays a percentage of all revenue (ie sales) regardless of whether the business or sale is profitable.
The effect is that the item has to be priced higher to the consumer, but the consumer is not allowed to see an item that says “sales tax.”
The only real bargain is when a national retailer has a nationwide sale and the Delaware stores have to honor the same price as the stores outside the state that have no revenue tax.
There is something like that in NC – they’re also raising the real estate transfer tax from .2% to 1.0%
North Carolina Finds 2,214 Registered Voters over the Age of 110
North Carolina voters roll shows that the Tar Heel State has 2,214 voters that are 110-years-old. Most of these voters are democrats and most seem to live in four democrat-controlled counties. Some of these aged voters have already voted absentee.
Many are even older than 110. In fact, it seems that NC has an awful lot of voters that are 112, too. The Carolina Transparency project did a review of the voter rolls this year and found that there are 631 Democrats who are 112 or older. By contrast, the Republicans can only find 229 over 112 voters in the state (and “unaffiliated” found 39).
And it gets worse. Two voters — and, yes, they’ve already voted in early voting — are over 150! One in Gaston County is 154 and another in Granville County is an astonishing 160!
This isn’t necessarily evidence of vote theft. It could be a massively failed voter registration system, although it is notable that the largest number of these voters just happen to be Democrats. But what ever is the case, it is highly unlikely to have this many centenarian voters still able to get out of their wheelchairs or retirement homes and have a run down to the polling place. Something certainly seems amiss in North Carolina.

Man I Hope Gov McCrory Cleans it up
parrott
The small town in Michigan I used to live in had a special outreach program at the nursing home to make sure all the Alzheimer’s patients voted
All this proves is that there IS life after death. No problem!!!
Its probably similar with voting, but one of the advantages of having Alzheimer’s is that patients can hide their own Easter eggs. 😉
…
Did I mention that one of the advantages of having Alzheimer’s is that patients can hide their own Easter eggs. 😉
I don’t remember.
