Minor tweak to streaming-radio.php

whatsonhttp://streamingradioguide.com/streaming-radio.php

This is the one size fits all, find whatever you want page. You can filter by syndicator, by whether a station does or does not carry a specfic program – the change is that it will now tell you what show is on the air (if we know).

In theory, if you’re a volunteer, you might select “Public Radio Stations” then listen to each station without a known program and rapidly “ID” every station carrying Dianne Rehm.

I picked Spanish Sports and could not find a single bullfight.

    Nice filtering mechanism.
Is there a way to filter for IHeart players only?
I don’t see that in the player list.
I have the IHeart app on my Kindle so when I’m just hangin out on the deck I can listen to Gun talk on Sunday (praise the Lord and pass the bullets).

      Yes and no 😉

The player list would give you want you want except that I haven’t been maintaining the player list very much

Cumulus gets tricky as they’ve generally seem to offer both a streamtheworld and an iHeartRadio link – while I have provision for two links, the second being an MP3 link, I don’t have it set up as 1..n streaming links per station. While that might make things a little more useful, it would triple the testing work and invite complaints like “you said this link is 128kb, but VLC says it is 48kb” [when the stream rolled over because all the 128kb streams are in use]

I do however have an “iHeartRadio” flag that could be used for filtering – I just haven’t kept that data complete as more folks signed on with iHeartRadio

I didn’t know Kindle could play iHeartRadio stations – I was wondering just yesterday if the head of Amazon was coming after radio next once he reshapes the Washington Post – Amazon has $7 billion in cash and marketable securities and could acquire Cumulus in a heart beat – clear channel would require debt holders to still be involved.

Imagine a time in the future where Kim Komando says “if you would like to know more about this bidirectional dongle, you’ll find a link on my web page where you can buy it on Amazon”. Synergy is there.

The Kindle iHeart app is good, needs some navigation changes but Bezos isnt responding to my email suggestions.
Thanks for keeping SRG available and the work that has to be done to make that happen.

“Synergy is there.” perhaps, but is Symmetry there? …remembering the Jane Sibbery classic…

Synergy is a word I generally despise – managers use it to explain how one person doing two people’s jobs makes things more efficient without actually changing anything.

In the case of amazon, the sum of the parts is greater than the pieces. Amazon doing product placement or targeted digital advertisement eliminates the entire layer of Madison Avenue ad agencies from the process.

With the kind of real time metrics they use, if an ad isn’t working, it won’t take a month to replace it. To me, ads are not so much annoying because of the quantity but because they are “selling” things I have no interest in buying.

I’ve not bought anything from Amazon – I’m not anti-Amazon, I just haven’t had a need. I was looking today at 2 TB hard drives just as something to look up. Reading the reviews, one of the drives has an issue with poor heat dissipation – another has 1000+ reviews. A few minutes scanning those will tell me much more than anything the sales zombie at Best Buy will tell me.

They do a great job also of showing you things your had bought in the past so you can reorder.

Same for showing related items that others frequently buy when buying the item you are considering.

…and don’t forget their web hosting business 😉
