Well, hush my puppies.
Much of health care is a costly charade? I’m shocked.
When I was in intensive care, I had a cardiologist wanting to suck me into doing a stress test despite having absolutely no evidence of a cardiac event.
Fortunately I wasn’t sedated, so I told him to go away and stop asking for consent.
Being admitted to a hospital is like being stuck at a car dealer. Everyone wants to sell tests and procedures and they like that whether you get many of none, it doesn’t affect you directly because someone else is paying. .. of course if you say no thank you, they hand you a clip board asking you to sign away your right to sue them.
…and if they kick you out if you don’t sign?
Just went through a very similar scenario. The stress test was ordered, but the Doctor dropped the order because there was no evidence of a cardiac event. I agree with the costly aspect, thankfully this was an excellent example of a Cardiologist. Besides, they were able to ventilate my arms with various necessary blood draws for a host of tests – too much fun.
Had my second mild heart attack here at the office about two weeks ago. I took the afternoon off and reenforced the order to my employees that should look difficult they are to wait a full 60 minutes after the flopping around ends before calling the corner.
I have increased turmeric and cinnamon, working on weight loss. Its a 3 Act play and I’m in the 3rd act. I didn’t go to the hospital because the Dr. would have told me, lose weight, cut your stress levels and coffee and here take a stress test. I’m done with the Beemer driving parasites. Don’t want to live forever. Used to be a useless obnoxious drunk, now I’m a slightly less obnoxious business founder and company grower. Big stuff is being dealt with, not going to had over the company to pay the health care mafia….. no way.
So let’s say I had a push rod valve engine and it started making a tapping sound.
I take it to my mechanic and he says – okay, put the car in neutral, and push the gas pedal to the floor and let’s see what happens (don’t bother checking the oil dipstick)
In my case, because I’m 300 pounds and can’t walk fast, he volunteered they can do a stress test using medications to make your heart speed up. Yeah, when my blood pressure goes up to 320/245 and I stroke out, they can indicate – well he was about to die anyhow.
This is getting to be a problem for me – I have a niece and my nephew’s wife (in NC) are both doctors. I don’t have the strength of character to confront them and tell them what I think, and if I move there, they’ll want to “fix” me, maybe even involuntarily – for my own good, of course.
My opinion is significantly influenced by a book I read called “Confessions of a Medical Heretic” in which the author creates the premise that “Modern Medicine” is actually a religion. It’s somewhat out of date at this point, but most of his insights still apply. Even my niece agrees that if you’re sick, the most dangerous place to be is in a hospital.
What Obamacare does is it married the State with the Religion of Modern Medicine. Once you are completely out of the loop on payment decisions and the costs are collectively shared, the doctors and government will force treatment on you and criminalize non-compliance. You can take that to the bank.
I certainly support your right to live your life the way you choose, and I am the first to point out that there are issues with both the US healthcare system and with modern medicine.
Having said all that, you are kidding yourself if you are 300 lbs and blame modern medicine for your health issues. Less weight is better even before modern medicine. A dog might force you to step away from the computer and walk you a bit each day.
I’ll get off my soapbox, I certainly have my own issues, but as a cyber friend, I wanted to say it once… I don’t want all my streamingradioguide points to expire worthless. 😉
Take care of yourself, HPaws!
