Many of you probably know that Art Bell is restarting his career on Sirius/XM. In the 1990s and 2000s, he worked for Premiere and signed over the recordings of his shows, which Premiere has been playing on early Saturday evenings as “Somewhere in Time” with Art Bell. The deep voiced guy who now works for the Redeye Trucking program has been edited out, but the rest of the show is there.
According to Tom Taylor, Art Bell has asked Premiere to stop replaying the shows that they own the rights to, pretty please – or at least give him free promotion to steer people to his new show on Sirius.
Perhaps he should jump in the time travel machine and tear up his contract.
Strangely, Ross Mitchell is (or was, as of just a few months ago when last I listened) the voice of the CC-owned talk channels on XM, so he still does Coast to Coast ads. Ross was forced to leave his announcing job at Coast to Coast when Cumulus started pushing the competing Red Eye Radio show. Cumulus owns KOH, where Ross is the co-host of the biggest AM morning radio show in town. In early 2012 he started doing a voiceover at the beginning of Red Eye Radio that said “I made the switch”.
Art seems to have a sweetheart deal at SiriusXM….Mon-Thurs nights, 7-10 pacific, with reruns all night long. I don’t really see what all the hubub is about, though. You know he’s just going to retire three or four months into this.
lol,
or get a sub-Host to fill-in 3 nights a week.
Who’s Art Bell?
Which art bell? 😉

Premiere really went to bat for Bell (and Rush) during all of the recurring turbulence of Bell’s success. If they decide to accommodate Bell – how nice, but I can’t believe that they ‘owe’ him anything. Somebody should have lost their job over the whole Mike Siegel flatulence. A position that Bell’s antics created.
I looked into a subscription to Sirius XM I just can’t for the same reason I can’t subscribe to cable – I’ll actually use less than 5% of the product (and I’ll burn in Hell before I willingly and knowingly contribute to Howard Stearn, Opie & Anthony, or any other of the audio pornographers.
Clear Channel has since gutted their syndication, affiliate relations staff – lots of stations carry Premiere, but they got more aggressive at keeping the shows on their own stations, and Cumulus has dumped as much as they can within their existing contracts
You can’t go home. I doubt Clear Channel would even accept paid Sirius ads let alone freebies
If the CC and Cumulus folks had access to OPM (tax payer funds), perhaps they would run things like this:

Down in Georgia, there is a guy pulling down $150k from Georgia Public Broadcasting who is catching flack for supposedly taking control of a Fox News AM station without telling either GPB or the FCC
Maybe Art Bell can get Curtis Sliwa to resume their on-the-air sparring. Sliwa and Bell got into it when WABC, the talker with the largest audience in the USA would go back and forth between airing Art or allowing Sliwa to have the overnight hours on WABC.
Sliwa would often make jabs at Art.
I wonder if Art and Noory will get into a Leno / Letterman deal – telling Richard Hoagland “if you do C2C, you can’t do my show”
I understand CNBC has a similar standard agreement – if you appear on CNBC you have to normally agree not to appear on another financial news outlet (Bloomberg News, Fox Business News) that same business day.
It’s very much like the MSNBC agreement: if you appear there, no one will see you.
Unless clips of the show appear on Al Jazeera America
