When I was working at NASDAQ, I kept Debt of Honor on my desk and encouraged people to read it. Not only was it earily accurate about how agents of a foreign government could bring economic chaos into the financial markets, but an important part of the story involves using a commercial airliner as a weapon, crashing it into a government building.
“It never occurred to anyone that people would deliberately fly a commercial airliner into a building before 9/11”
ORLY?
Unfortunately, this reinforces that I’ve succeeded in living long enough to watch the important people in my life die off one by one.
Since the government is shut down, officials have decided to shove his corpse into the Potomac River and let it rot for entertainment for Japanese tourists who can’t go up the Washington Monument.
“Since the government is shut down, officials have decided to shove his (Tom Clancy’s) corpse into the Potomac River and let it rot for entertainment…..”
Where’s the EPA when you need ’em. Hells Bells, for that matter where are the Maryland or Virginia officials? Lord knows they ususally run a really tight ship of state.
Tom Clancy will be greatly missed. I recall when the US Navy went nuts after the publication of “The Hunt for Red October” and they claimed that he violated national security acts. He was able to prove in every case that he obtained his info from publicly available sources- at the time mostly public libraries, not the internet. 🙂
Google Vasili Arkhipov – you probably owe your life to him.
