BMI & Insurance Underwriting

This is a very interesting chart for a lot of reasons

http://affordablehealthinsurancequotes.org/underwriting/bmi-premium-rate-adjustment/

– it confirms that people with very low BMI are on a par for premature stroke or heart attack with really fat people. Anorexia is very unhealthy
– if you’re significantly overweight, it will cost you a lot – but ONLY if you’re young. If you’re 57 and fat, you are not a high risk
– The cliff of non-insurability is very steep – I now understand why Humana declined me on their web site.

I’m 57, probably 5’10” since my bones have settled. If I say I weigh 295 (which is accurate), that makes me an L5 risk. If I was 24, that would be a 70% premium surcharge. Since I’m over 55, L5 is a 10% surcharge, basically nothing. If I say I weigh 301 pounds, it is an automatic decline.

So, no matter what a person verbally declares about themselves, surely the insurance companies make an effort at some sort of verification, right? Since they really do need to confirm a person is not heavier than a certain weight.

If the doubt you, they’ll have you do a cursory physical exam. Of course, this is supposed to all go away in January.

The real abuse will be underestimating 2014 income and then having to repay up to maybe $10k in 2015 and claiming poverty

Just be glad none of us here are microbiologist’s seeking term life insurance coverage. I understand microbiologist have a short life span, especially after making any significant scientific discovery.

I keep seeing many segments of absolute government / societal dysfunction – any aware person should. I keep thinking well, hells bells, the support structure just can’t bear this sort of absurdity any longer. The only consistent thing is my incorrect conclusion. I am in a sort of perverse awe of what is happening and what continues. I guess I have a ring side seat to observe how the republic has crumbled into a heap of genuine petty-thug-rule. The President’s red line was just rhetoric, a lie to the country. The average American doesn’t even have that.

I just read an update on Jefferson county Alabama and the proposed settlement of the bankruptcy. Some naive public servants entered into swap contracts thinking they were getting free money – instead they are going to leave the sewer system with $6.2 billion in debt and interest over 40 years and an agreement that sewer rates will go up every year for the next 40 years, and that won’t begin to actually pay off the debt.

Birmingham is located in Jefferson County. The 130,000 residential sewer users currently pay an average of $38 a month
