FCC Chairman Wheeler has a blog!

This is why I was so harsh on Ted Cruz for holding up the nomination – while Mr Wheeler may be something of wireless telecom insider, he’s a very smart man and didn’t get this job because he knew Barack Obama in college, like the man who preceded him or Mignon Clyburn who has her job because her daddy’s skin color.

What is alluded to in the blog is that AT&T wants to wind down copper based analog phone calls. There is technology on the horizon that allows very high speed digital over phone company copper – DSL was the typical Americn reluctance to do a hard implementation of a new technology, so DSL tries to do analog and digital on the same wire, which cripples the digital potential.

Our economic competitors in Asia are light years ahead of us in high speed broadband. AT&T wants to put your cable TV company out of business – uVerse is good, but expensive to deploy outside of high density population areas.

Getting the FCC out of the way of people trying to innovate is a good thing.
