My other shoe, not Clear Channel’s.
My biggest fear has come true – I went to the DMV and failed the eye test. I’m pretty sure all that is going on is some eye irritation / infection and I’ll get this taken care of next week. I wonder if any of my relatives actually look at this? I doubt it 🙂
The condo I bought was deliberately chosen as a place I could survive independently if I got to the point of not being able to drive. Things get even more dicey since I’m in Health Care Limbo until January 1st (but an eye exam isn’t going to go over the $5000 deductible anyhow). I be paying da doc myself, no matter what.
Since we won’t want Obamacare paying for birth control, how about paying for glasses, refractions and lazik surgery?
[my issues are not something that either would solve, I’m just lobbing out more meat to discuss what mandatory health insurance policies should cover]
I hope it is not serious and can be taken care of easily & quickly.
Art, you might try your County Health Department. I have found since moving to the Kentucky (the South) that the cities and counties offer a lot of “free” services. If you are considered a “Senior Citizen” there are even more services, although “free” means that you have actually paid for these services via personal property taxes or a variety of other taxes. Where I am in KY the county that we live in offers a lot of small town things you wont find in Detroit or Chicago without waiting forever in a line, here it is a lot like agency is waiting for someone to come in and visit.
If you are a Veteran you have even more options.
The County health department will probably now be overflowing with all the people dumped off their “bad apple” insurance coverage and put in Medicaud, only to find out that almost no doctors accept Medicaid (for now).
I just got further confirmation that I really am covered with my Obamacare compatible policy. The ability to pay for it wasn’t the limiting factor on having it – getting the policy issued was. I expect that this system will collapse by 2015 at the latest, but BCBS now is pretty much on the hook unless they go out of business.
Based on the ACA precedent, I think a very strong argument can be made that in the interest of PUBLIC SAFETY, auto insurance should cover periodic eye exams, glasses, contacts, and even lasik surgery if needed. Many states require auto insurance to cover free windshield replacements when the windshield develops a crack. It’s only logical that we should expand this concept and have auto insurance be the first line of defense against a veritable army of Mr. Magoos wrecking havoc on the public motorways. 🙂 🙂
“ROAD HOG!” lmfao
Trying to stay on topic here with regard to discussing what mandatory health insurance policies should cover. Transgender procedures are near and dear to a Transhumanist’s heart, so surely that should be covered as well as implanting us with computer chips so we can interface directly to our computers, our smart phones, and of course the Skylink. Although this type of health care coverage could be considered to be a symbol of androgyny, we really need to think about how we can make the ‘work’ easier for the NSA and a myriad other friendly government agencies that were created to help us, or them.
I would certainly think eye care should be near the top of the list of what should be covered.
LASIK not being covered by insurance is the reason the cost for the procedure has plummeted and the technology has continued to improve. The bulk of the fee is the license fee for using the machine. The doctor doesn’t have to do much beyond pressing a button.
Back in the day, the Soviet Union’s innovation was a process called radial keratotomy – where a scalpel was used to cut radiating lines on the cornea to flatten it and reduce near sightedness. That “innovation” rightly is on the scrap heap of medical “science”. It was cheap to do using an assembly line, but the results were very erratic and generally created problems with night vision.
What about an Obama phone so you can call your doctor…. or call yourself a taxi to take you to see your doctor?
Went to optometrist today, now that my eyes have settled down a bit. She found me to be 20/30, which is what I should normally see on a good day. So that shoe didn’t squash me into toe jam.
yeah you passed ! She didn’t ask you to turn your head and cough ! LOL
( unless she looked like Jedediah Bila)
