The Storm is here

After being below freezing all day Wednesday, it is now 31F, the ideal temperature for snow. One more degree up, we get sleet, freezing rain or ice.

The good news is tomorrow it will be 42F so most of this melts.

18″ and still snowing here in SWVA. NS is still running trains. They have heated switches with propane now. 27 degrees outside , light fluffy snow.
It was 20 all day yesterday.
Jeep is covered, coffee is nice and hot. Waiting on Alex to start his broadcast to the resistance.

Oh, yeah!!! A perfect snow for having snowball fights and building snowmen and snowwomen. The South is the best place to live. We get the occasional big snow, but it does not hang around all winter. Grass will be green and growing by the end of March. Then I get to start cutting it every week until November.

So you may have noticed the server went down.

Freezing rain appears to be off the table. The sun is out here and there. It’s 34F and the snow has stopped. Snow is starting to melt, but will start to refeeze overnight. Trees falling on power lines is unlikely. Vehicles hitting power poles are possible.

About when the temp hit 33, the power started tripping on and off. I just killed the power to protect the computers. The eMachine is always finicky when it loses power.

Doesn’t appear anything has been broken.

Just out on the roads- the roads that were actually paved are clear already! Really?! Stuff doesn’t even stick around- too bad. At least I got of going to class today and the close school tomorrow already. Why? Roads will be clear by then!!……and can’t have any snowball fights down here, everybody is too scared of this white stuff to go out!! Seriously, no one’s even shoveling their side-walks around here. Oh well, “just let it melt” mentality. Can’t stand it!

Sun came out about 2 pm – the snow is rapidly melting if it isn’t in the shade.

It’s going to get below freezing after dark though, so we’re gonna have ice and people wrapping themselves around power poles.

I am taking a day off from work since I stayed up half the night watching it snow. This was one of the most beautiful we’ve had in the last few years. I slept late, but managed to clear my sidewalks and the vehicles of snow. I kept the hand-fired, coal stove burning and managed to keep the house at 55-60 degrees. I made pizza, cous-cous and chili…..mmmm’good eating.

The snow is melting, the roads are nearly dry, but we will still have plenty for tomorrow, Yea!!! Life is good!

One thing I’ve noticed that surprised me is the degree to which the sides of roads don’t seem to be showing the red clay any more. I’m wondering if it was something done deliberately to plant more ground cover to make people less aware they’re in North Carolina.

Local TV had reporter on Independence Boulevard. Police had road stopped on purpose. It’s a state maintained US highway so there are actually two snow plow trucks for it.

Reporter interviews guy stuck in car for an hour – asks him why the hell he is out driving around and what was so urgent. His response “I’m from Connecticut”. Classic.

Admit it, Art…you miss CT, right? Here in Western Mass we’ve got about two feet on the ground and more coming tomorrow night. Really would like to smack Al Gore.
No melting here! Just taking a break from shoveling and roof raking. At least here in New England we know how to deal with it…shovel alot and complain alot!

It was 51 when I went out in my car to visit Chick Fil A and Walmart. Chick Fil A is starting to lose its appeal. They just announced they’re going to require their chicken suppliers to stop using antibiotics. They already caved on using yellow coloring and whatever fat they’re cooking in doesn’t hang around in the sandwich. It’s pretty washed out. No salt on the Fried potatoes. Give me back my damn transfats, or even better – beef lard!

I miss CT every chance I get!

“… It’s because these people in North Carolina don’t know how to drive!”
Overheard at Walmart on Pineville Matthews road

You’re damn right we don’t know how to drive!

Let me try to learn you something….

North Carolina Guide to how to drive on a Rotary.

Let’s say yer driving down the highway to go to the sundry store to pick up some country ham for supper. Yer chatting with yer buddy riding shotgun in the pick em up truck about the good old days when The King showed Cale Yarlborough that #42 owned Daytona.

But when you git to the corner, there ain’t no corner there no more. Some college kid from Harvard put in one of them damn rotary things while we were at the Revival tent being Born Again.

So here is what you need to do. First, turn on your four way flashers to let people know yer coming. Push the fuzzy dice out of the way so you can see good out the winder. Come to a stop and have your buddy hop out. If any other car is coming, it’s his job to run in front of them waving his arms so they stop. Once all traffic is stopped, go ahead and pick up your buddy and honk your horn so people know it is their turn. Put the four on the floor back in gear and speed shift it without using that silly clutch and check the fifth under the floor and put in another 8 track of Conway Twitty duets with Tammy Wynettte.

Why does the Rotary Club want to build these dmn things anyhow? – they must be dumbasses or maybe women on the rag. Pass me the pack of Marlboros.

    The End.

Glad I could clear that up.

Oh, and turn off the flashers when you get home at the trailer park.

LOL – moving my fuzzy dice – Richard Petty was # 43. You must be one of them there Yankees 🙂

  9. briand75 says:

I am about as Yankee as you get, but I did watch my stock car racing – before it was known as NASCAR. Cale Yarborough, Richard Petty and Junior Johnson all drove across my TV screen. Petty may have started with #42, I wouldn’t know, but like the other kids who collected stock car toys, Richard Petty was always blazoned with #43. I think I still have the Plymouth Superbird model from back in the day (a phrase that grates on the ears).
